Brief History

What is known today as VLMMH or simply "Makabali Hospital" started in 1957 when a
young doctor established a small OB-Gyne clinic at the family residence in the then town
of San Fernando.

In the clinic, Doctor Venancia L. Makabali took care of mothers-to-be in the community,
providing them the best of pre-natal care to make sure they safely gave birth to healthy
babies. And then Makabali took care of the newborns as they grew to be toddlers.

Most remained her patients to their teens, and some even as they grew to be mothers
themselves.

She never turned away a patient, particularly the poor, in the fulfillment of her mission to
reach out and provide health care to all in need. And slowly the clinic grew, taking up
more room in the household. Till, finally, Makabali turned her entire home into what
today is the VL Makabali Memorial Hospital.

Now run by its able management team composed of Alejandro S. Makabali, president;
Anna Marie Makabali-Gallegos, chief executive officer; Dr. Reynaldo Makabali, chief
medical officer; Dra. Vivian L. Makabali, chief administrative officer; Giancarlo Makabali-
Gallegos, administrative officer; and officer-in-charge Ma. Jeannie Castro, chief of
nursing, the hospital boasts of new technology capped by its "patient first" policy.

The management team is complemented by the trustworthy and hardworking board of

directors composed of Alejandro S. Makabali, chairman of the board; Cynthia Makabali-
Henson, vice-chairman; Anna Marie Makabali-Gallegos, treasurer; Diosdado Marasigan,
secretary; and members Dra. Vivian L. Makabali and Encarnacion Makabali.
