Reflection: National Treasure a Journey through History

A Journey Through History, a TV series on Philippine history, as told through the country's
most significant structures, monuments and archaeological artifacts. The videos from
episode 1 up to the last part was full of knowledgeable facts about our rich history.
Yesterday I went to the National Museum because I want to see it myself our national
treasures, I was fascinated and amazed because I saw historical facts about the animals and
archaeological discoveries. While visiting National Museum I was able to see the famous
Manunggul Jar it has a very short description but it says a lot. As a college student, rather as
an architect student seeking for more information about one's own history is a tough job.
But this tv series about our heritage, history and treasure made it a little bit easier for me to
understand things about our past. Watching the series is like going to a field trip, because
you get to see the heritage structures while Toti (Augusto "Toti" Villalon) the tour guide is
guiding me through the History. It made me feel good in a way that I was able to know the
facts about the history and to know that somebody is working on it to maintain or preserve
these heritage structures. The series was very helpful as an eye opener, looking back in my
elementary days and high school days there are things that they never mentioned about but
this series increases my knowledge. The series shows how rich our cultural heritage is and
why it need to be preserve as an valuable legacy for future legacy. Philippines really has a lot
to offer because it is a treasure torn of cultural discovery. The Archaeologists are actually
just like THs (treasure hunters) where excavation is also a major part of their job.
Archeological treasures of the Philippines show that we are civilized back then. These
treasure and heritage structures is our identity as people, as a Filipino. Investing people
attention to our history may help to know the importance of preserving the heritage
treasure in our country. As an architect student Im grateful to hear such words or
realization if there is no balance and if we only think about development but we dont think
about where we came from and what we are all about our identity as a people. Rizal made
a lot of contribution to our country his words are forever to understand the soul of a nation
it is necessary to open the book of its past. He give as the idea to have pride a greater sense
of pride for our country, heritage, cultures and people.
