Government of Canada

The Canada Student Grant for Full-Time Students with Dependants is available to low-income students with dependants while
enrolled in a full-time program at a designated post-secondary institution. If you are going to school part-time, see Grant for Part-
Time Students with Dependants.

Note: This grant is not available to students from the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Quebec as these provinces and
territories operate their own student financial assistance programs.

Eligibility
You are eligible if you:

apply and qualify for student financial assistance (have at least a $1 of assessed financial need);
are from a low-income family as defined by the Canada Student Loans Program;
are enrolled in a full-time degree, diploma, or certificate program (at least 12 weeks long within a period of 15 weeks in a
row) at a designated post-secondary institution; and
have a dependant who will be under 12 years of age at the beginning of the study period (or a dependant 12 years of age or

How much could you receive?

You could receive $200 each month for every dependant child you have for each year of your full-time studies (including
undergraduate and graduate levels) as long as you still qualify. This amount is in addition to any amount you receive under the
Canada Student Grant for Students from Low-Income Families.

Example: If you qualify for a government grant and you have an assessed need of $3,000, you will receive a Grant for Students
with Dependants of $1,600 per child and a Grant for Students from Low-Income Families of $3,000 ($375 per month of study),
assuming you study for 8 months.
