After Revolutionary Card Technique this is the second Marlo volume added to my
collection. The binding is high quality with nice heavy paper and clear
illustrations. It is a large book full of Marlos methods, routines and techniques
365 pages in all. There is plenty of ridiculously good card magic to be found in
here. Mental Topper mentioned by John Racherbaumer in the introduction is a very
strong routine that serves as a great opener to any close up set. If this were
released to day there would be video trailers, all kinds of hype and then there
would appear a single trick DVD for $40. Marlo gave away this routine in 1966 to
anyone who read his column in TOPS. Cardician Makes Good, Marlos Princess and the
Mental Sandwich are all very strong routines as well. There are plenty of well-
written essential techniques that are going to improve your card work such as the
Prayer Cull, Olram Subtly, Packet Switches and a Table Pass. To me the most
beneficial things about working through this book has been the experience of
tweaking Marlos routines to fit my performing style and circumstances. His
material and writing style doesnt spoon readers or students. Some care and
attention is required to personalize this material and find the right balance of
misdirection, technique and audience communication to create a memorable effect.

I recommend the ebook available through L&L publishing.

Clipped Thought the spectator thinks of a ace and the performer successfully
place a paper clip on the thought of card behind his back. Marlo flushed this out
into a three-phase routine. I havent tried this as I am wary of the hands behind
my back approach to card work. Perhaps this is unfair.

Cardician Makes Good An amusing transformation of four selected cards from

deuces to aces with a surprise twist at the end.

Remember and Forget the spectator peeks at two cards. He is asked to remembers
one and forget the other . After cutting the pack the magician asks which card the
spectator remembered. This card is shown to be on top of the deck. Asking which
card the spectator forgot the Remembered card is changed into the forgotten card.
The remembered card is then produced from the pocket. The method involves a stay
stack and faro shuffles.

The Incomplete Faro A continuation of a sub method in Remember and Forget that
retains the original stay stack order.

A Table Pass A Hermann pass that is performed at the table edge after the deck is
cut.

The Homing Card A discarded black card keeps returning to the performers hands,
thus constantly frustrating him in an attempted card problem.

Gad About Aces a routine involving the multiple vanish of aces and repeated
productions from the pocket all accomplished with a borrowed deck and no palming

Original Homing Card Routine. Same as the original with the black card always
coming back to a packet of red cards.

Preview to a Chapter Outlines a move that apparently places a card on top of the
deck while retaking it in the hand. Similar applications as a lateral palm.

Vanishing Aces and Face Up Switch & Effect four aces vanish one at a time from
the top of the deck. Two of the aces vanish visibly.
The Blue Thought The audience sees a lone face down blue card turns out to be a
card thought of.

Aftus / Mental Reverse uses the Face Up Switch to t exchange cards regardless of
their position in the packet.

Mind reading queen A spectator is shown a packet of spade cards from Ace to Ten
in order that he may think of any one of them. A queen of a chosen suit is now
placed into the packet while the same is behind the performers back. The Queen is
found next to the thought of value. Four methods.

The Mental Sandwich The spectator thinks of a card. He places two deuces face up
into the deck so that he sandwiches a card between them. This card turns to be the
thought of card.

The FuFu Switch Same as the previous face up switch except that all of the cards
are handled face up.

A Flourish to Reverse. Moves the top card of the deck to the bottom with a
casual flourish.

Marlos Princess -The spectator is shown 5 cards and is asked to think of one of
them. The performer places one card into his pocket, leaving four on the table.
The thought of card is named and the performer shows this as the one in his pocket.
The remaking cards on the table are turned over and are now the four aces. Six
methods.

After the Princess Same premise as the Princess with a surprise climax

Siamese Strangers A card isolated from the pack turns out pot be the card a
spectator will later think of.

Incomplete Faro Control Continued studied of the Faro Control from Aug 1963.

Incomplete Faro / Multiple Peeks Accomplishes the location of either two or three
selections.

Packet Switches Four methods.

A Problem Posed The spectator cuts to the aces 7 methods.

Cards & Coins A borrowed and marked coin vanishes and appears between a deck of
cards just above a previously selected card. Gaffed

Glide Variation An indifferent card changes one at a time, to two selected cards,
then back to the indifferent card. The two selections are then produced from two
different pockets.

Table Reverse and an Effect A selected card is found reversed in the pack.

Impromptu Coin And Cards No waxed card required.

As an Opener Spectator cuts to the aces

A Multiple Effect Two spectators and the performer each think of a card. It is
found that all three have thought of the same card. The performer also discloses
the number that each spectator is also thinking of. A lone red card in a blue pack
turns out to be the card all three have thought of. Three methods as well as two
extra routines.
The Olram Subtlety. To show the backs and faces of several cards, yet either the
back or face of a card.

Marlos Aces Four aces vanish from their respective packets and appear in one
packet. Gaffed.

New Palm Position Similar to a rear palm but can be accomplished from a side
steal or OHTP with little movement.

The M.P. Side Steal A side steal that feature as little movement of the hands as
possible while the deck is either held or dropped onto a table.

The Action Lift a deceptive get ready for a double lift that involves Turing the
deck 180 degrees.

The Mental Topper The magician determines a mentally selected card without asking
a single question. The out is possibly stronger than the intended climax. Very
strong.

In Spectators Hands A wrong card is turned face up in the deck. While the pack
is in the spectators hands the card changes to a spectators selected card. The
spectator does the spreading of the deck.

The Prayer Cull Accomplishes the culling of cards to either the top or bottom of
the deck. Can be used as a control or exchange.

The Matching Miracle From a shuffled and cut deck the spectator deals out any
number of face down poker hands. He makes a free choice of any one of the hands.
The magician removes 5 cards from another deck and they are shown to match those
the spectator freely selected.

Marlo Handles Mexican Joe the deck is given both upward and downward crimps.
Impossible location applications effects as well as ace cutting are described.

Ever Ready Black Routine Selected cards are found under stringent conditions.
The deck ends up in alternating red / black sequence. There are phases to the
original routine.

The Opportune Miracle A joker is placed into a freely chosen place in the deck.
It is found next to a previously selected card. Make use of a very unusual gaff
idea.

Ultra Torn and Restored Card two methods

One Hand Card Switches. Two methods and subtleties for card switches on the table.

New Tabled Palms Three methods and subtleties

Simulated Pickup -the action appears to be the pickup of a card that has been
peeled off from the top of a small packet onto the deck and later picked up under
the packet. The card is actually never taken under the packet but remains on top
of the deck.

The Promise A spectator is shown an Ace, Deuce, Three of one suit. He then
decides which one he wants to have change into a previously selected card. Three
methods.

The Other Method The wrong card turns face up in the pack. It is placed aside
face down and turns out to be the actual selection. The wrong card is produced
from the pocket. Gaffed.
