maksimum 90F.

2. 150000 lb per hour of kerosene will be heated from 75 to 120F by cooling a

gasoline stream from 160 to 120F. Inlet pressure will be 50 psia for each stream
and the maximum pressure drop of 7 psi for gasoline and 10 psi for kerosene are
permissible .

3. 60,000 lb/h of a petroleum fraction will be cooled from 250 oF to 150 oF using water with a
range of 85 oF to 120 oF For each stream, the inlet pressure will be 50 psia and a maximum
pressure drop of 10 psi is specified. A fouling factor of 0.002 h. ft2.oF/ Btu is required for
each stream. The petroleum fraction is not corrosive and its properties may be assumed
constant at the values given below:

4. 90,000 lb/h of benzene will be heated from 75 oF to 145 oF by cooling a stream of

orthotoluidine from 230 oF to 150 oF. Inlet pressures are 45 psia for ortho-toluidine and 50
psia for benzene. A maximum pressure drop of 10psi is specified for each stream. Properties
of ortho-toluidine at 190 oF are given below:

5. 85,000 lb/h of amyl acetate (n-pentyl acetate, C7H1402) will be cooled from 175 oF to 125 oF
byheating a stream of amyl alcohol (1-pentanol) from 75 oF to 120 oF Inlet pressures are 45
psiafor the acetate and 50 psia for the alcohol. A maximum pressure drop of 7 psi is
specified for each stream. Specific gravities are 0.81 for the alcohol and 0.83 for the acetate.

6. 320,000 lb/h of oil will be cooled from 260 oF to 130 oF using treated water from a cooling
tower with a range of 80 oF to 120 oF For each stream, the inlet pressure will be 50 psia and a
maximum pressure drop of 12 psi is specified. A fouling factor of 0.002 h. ft2.oF/ Btu is
required for the oil stream, which is not corrosive. Properties of the oil are given below:
7. 43800 lb/ hr of a 42 OAPI kerosene leaves the bottom of a distilling column at 390 oF and will
be cooled to 200 oF by 149000 lb/ hr of 34 oAPI Mid-continent crude coming from storage at
100 oF and heated to 170 oF. A 10 psi pressure drop is permissible on both streams, and a
combined dirt factor of 0.003 should be provided.

8. 175000 lb/ hr of distilled water enters an exchanger at 93 oF and leaves at 85 oF. The heat
will be transferred to 280000 lb/ hr of raw water coming from supply at 75 oF and leaving
the exchanger at 80 oF. A 10 psi pressure drop may be expended on both streams while
providing a fouling factor of 0.0005 for distilled water and 0.0015 for raw water when the
tube velocity exceeds 6 fps.
