1.) What is meant by media convergence?

Give some examples.

Media convergence is the merging of mass communication. Examples include television and radio.

2.) What has been the impact on how audiences consume media?
Less newspapers are being sold because the majority of people will watch the news on the
TV and have apps on their mobile devices to use. Some may even look through the news
using their laptops and computers.

3.) What has been the impact on how institutions produce media?

Many people can be influenced to believe lies as popular media institutions such as Twitter and
Facebook can produce fake news making more profit and money. This creates a negative impact for
the viewers as false information is being read.

4.) How many types of camera shot can you name?

Close up, extreme close up, mid shot, long shot, over the shoulder shot

5.) What is the psychological impact on the viewer of each of these shot types?
For example, using a long shot means we can see the whole person, their character and
what may be in the background. This could be used to express a dramatic sensation, and
perhaps a narrative. With extreme close up, it can definitely be more effective. For instance,
if the audience is shown a characters close up of their hand picking up a gun, it can add
more tension than seeing it from a wide or long shot.

6.) How many types of film edits or transitions can you name?
Cut, editing, cross-cutting, jump shot, eye line match, match-on-action

7.) What is the psychological impact on the viewer of each of these edits or transitions types?
An example such as a jump cut, may intrigue the audience more as its creative and will keep
the viewers satisfied. Editing in general is important as the viewers are following assembling
shots made into a sequence. It can keep the audience questioning what is bound to happen
next.

8.) What is mise en scene? List the different types.

It is the arrangement of scenery and props on the stage of a theatrical production or on a set of a
film. Examples includes lighting and costume.

9.) What is genre?

Different categories/types of film, music. For example, in film, there are different types of genres
such as comedy, horror, romance, etc
10.) The film industry releases certain genres at different times of year. When does this happen
& why?

A movie called Halloween was released 31st August. Many may question why not October. The
reason it was released so early and in the summer, is because more people are free, and are more
likely available to watch it, rather than on actual Halloween. This means much more profit.
