Twitter Review:
@educationweek retweets EdWeek Teachers [@EdWeekTeacher] tweet on using an element of cultural
or systematic behavior passed through relativeness, or memes and GIFs, in a classroom setting. Despite
the belief that social media and texting have a negative effect on students grammar and coherence,
entertainment such as memes and GIFs cause a spike in student performance in the classroom. It is
thought that these forms of social media better relate to their students, causing an increase in classroom
attendance along with student interaction. With such a technologically driven world, it will become even
more difficult to keep up with the Joneses (Keeping up with the Joneses, 1913), but with the help of
teachers striving to integrate technology within their classrooms, our world will grow more connected
while becoming understood.

@educationweek tweets about superintendents who have dealt with natural disasters and offers advice to
the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Kerry Sachetta, the assistant superintendent and former principal for
operations in Joplin, Missouri school district spoke about the tornado that ripped through his city and
school in 2011. He said you have to take care of yourself first before you go and help someone else. Some
make note of a few important measure to take in situations such as this. Some include keeping in mind
contacting employees to help lead, helping students and staff cope with trauma, and assessing damages in
facilities. Robert Romines tells his story too, and had been hired a week before as an incoming school
chief when a tornado killed 25 in Moore, Oklahoma. These two eyewitness accounts help faculty and staff
who were affected in Texas by Hurricane Harvey deal with the problems that might come about due to
loss of life and/or material items. Harveys impact stretches 300 miles along the Gulf Coast, and
hopefully, with the help of others willing to share their story, many of Harveys victims will be helped.

@educationweek tweets about the significance of test scores and asks, how could you classify

an assistant professor of education at the College of the Holy Cross in Worchester, Mass., (and a
former high school teacher and edweek.org blogger) poses the question, while later declaring a
shift in mindset at every level of education. He notes that the numbers produced by standardized
tests fit the kind of seemingly objective, quantifiable metrics that have triumphed across
American society. By now, many generations of people have come of age with testing simply
being a part of life. He later says in an interview that a child having early advantages sets a tone
and example that he/she will carry with them to school. With the standardized tests engulfing the
education system, those advantages will be more difficult to uncover. Schneider hopes to create a
more efficient way to measure school progress and efficiency, which will then continue to better
the education system.

Tests are a ginormous part of the educational system today. Most tests are sought after

using technology anyway, but is that truly painting the right pictures for administration? Some

new technology could be introduced for students to study and ace the electronical quizzes thrown

their way, such as apps, games, tablets/computers, and interactive collaboration (group work).

Technology can be integrated into classrooms to help reduce the noise level as well.

Students can be focused on the technologysuch as tabletsinstead of talking among

themselves. Additional interactive games, apps, and group assignments may keep them engaged

as well.

it is an innovation space where UM faculty, staff, and students and alumni provide technical training and mentoring

university received a $250,000 grant from Google to fund this project. This program is a great way for students to

Biometrics measure unique traits of an individual, such as a fingerprint, retina, or facial features,
to identify someone. More companies are turning to biometric authentication instead of
passwords and keys because of its higher security and ease of entry. The main reason schools
would want to implement biometrics is to save time and make some transitional parts of the day
a bit easier. Unfortunately, it could be problematic because there are ways to acquire biometric
data without using the actual physical body part or person, but with the right implications and
engineering skills, as well as information given to the students and parents, biometrics will be a
great way to integrate technology into schools, allowing for classroom material instruction to run
smoother as a result and reach its full potential.
