6. CONSTRUCTION METHODOLOGY
Materials

1. Concrete of grade M25 as per approved design mix.

2. Reinforcement Cage according to drawing: HYSD bars of Fe 500
conforming to IS: 1786-2008. Periodical tests will be conducted on
reinforcement bars to check suitability according to ITP.
7. 1 Survey
The co-ordinates of the piles are marked on ground from approved
drawings. Pile point locations are marked on ground by driving a cut
piece of steel rod of 8mm dia and covering it with concrete with tip of the
rod painted. At the time of starting a new pile, the pile point shall be
checked with total station and same is witnessed by client with reference
to the grid line.

7.2 Rig Movement Sequence

a. Piling engineer shall plan the rig movement sequence.

b. In a line/group of piles, the sequence of rig movement shall be based

on convenience and ensuring that no damage is done to recently cast
pile when constructing the successive piles.
c. The planned sequence shall be marked on the drawing.

7.3 Permanent Liner

The thickness of liner plate received at site shall be checked by using
vernier. The thickness shall be minimum 03mm as agreed by client.
The following checks shall be carried out after fabrication of M.S Casing.

a) Diameter of the M.S Casing.

b) Welding joints
The pile point shall be checked by lowering the hammer on the ground
covered with thin layer of sand, from a height to get the impression.
To control the pile point location three established control points are
established at a distance of 2mtr from the pile point. After / while driving
the M.S casing, pile points should be checked at frequent intervals.

7.3 Boring

a) Pile Boring Equipments Truck Mounted Rig/ Winch Machine

/ DTH Boring
Drilling for the pile bore of 300 mm diameter up to the
hard rock strata with spacing of 400mm centre to
centre, with necessary allowance for the permanent
casing.

The permanent liner is driven up to the hard rock level

After guide casing is fixed further boring in soil will be

continued up to the required depth.

Boring will be terminated on ascertaining that hard strata

(Socket length in hard rock is 1000 mm).

b) Formation of Bore Shaft

During boring operation the verticality of the bore shaft shall be
checked at an interval of 3.0m.
The piling engineer shall maintain the record of the same in bore
register.
The rock sample of the bore shaft shall be collected after
reaching rock level and shall be kept under safe custody.
All operation during pile boring shall be recorded.
C) Cleaning:
On completion of total length of pile, the bore shall be thoroughly
cleaned till all the loose material is removed from bore by means
of cleaning bucket.

7.4 Placing of Reinforcement Cage

The reinforcement for the work shall conform to drawing (BBS) and from
the approved manufacturer as per the approval of client.

The steel received at site shall be stacked properly by keeping

proper wooden packing.
Reinforcement cage shall be fabricated at site as per drawing
and it shall be recorded.
Circular cover blocks shall be used with the grade of concrete
(M25) same as that used for piling work.
The cover blocks shall be tied to the bars at every 1m interval.
The reinforcement cage shall be lowered in the bore carefully.
The length of cage shall be as given in the drawing.

7.5 Concreting
Ready mix concrete of M25 grade shall be poured through tremie pipe.
Tremie pipes shall be removed in stages during pouring of concrete
ensuring that tremie bottom is always inside the concrete. The
concreting shall be done up to 600mm above the cut off level.
Quality control of works
i. The locations and levels of pile shall be checked carefully to
ensure alignment in accordance with the drawings.
ii. Concrete cubes shall be tested as per IS 456:2000 for
compressive strength of cubes.
iii. Slump shall be checked and maintained as per mix design.

8. Health, Safety & Environment

Drilling and Concreting
1. While drilling, competent supervision is ensured during insertion of casing pipe and also
during welding.
2. Any bores to be left open will be covered by a steel mesh and secured around the top of
the casing and hazard tape will be placed to surround the area, as necessary.
3. Only trained and experienced workmen will be engaged in the work.
4. PPEs
i. It shall be ensured that every one wears the necessary personal protective
equipments like safety helmets and shoes.
ii. Gloves will be worn where there is potential risk to ones hand.
iii. Eye protection will be worn where the operation can be identified as potential
risk like welding.
iv. The rig operators will regularly use ear plugs to protect themselves against
noise.

5. Piling rig shall not be erected in dangerous proximity to electric conductors.

6. The frame of any rig shall be structurally safe for all anticipated dead, live or wind load.
7. When the rig is not in use, extra precautionary measures for stability, such as securing
them with minimum four guys, shall be adopted to prevent any accidents due to wind storm,
earthquake.
8. Ever crane driver or hoisting appliance operator shall be competent to the satisfaction of
the engineer-in-charge and no person under age of 21 years should be in charge of any
hoisting machine including scaffolding winch or signal to operator.
