Technology Integrated Lesson Plan

Grade Level: 10th Grade

Students will use a variety of intellectual skills to demonstrate their understanding of major
ideas, eras, themes, developments, and turning points in world history and examine the broad
sweep of history from a variety of perspectives.

ISTE Technology Standard(s):

Knowledge Constructor-
Students critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools to construct knowledge,
produced creative artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for themselves and others.

Digital Citizen-
Students recognize the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working
in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in ways that are safe, legal and ethical.

Lesson Objective(s):

Content Area Objectives:


Students will begin to understand the significance of the Age of
Enlightenment
Students will be able to define the following vocabulary terms: Age of
Enlightenment, Natural Law, Natural Rights, Secular, Philosophe, and
Social Contract Theory.
Students will begin to be able to identify the works and ideas attributed to
John Locke, Voltaire, Baron de Montesquieu, Thomas Hobbes, and Jean
Jacques Rousseau
Students will begin to understand the connection between the ideas of the
Enlightenment thinkers and the impact they had on the world.
Technology Area Objectives:
Allow the students to use technology to their advantage and gain a
comprehension of the tools accessible to them through technology.

Introduce the Learning Activity:

Activity #1
The lesson will be introduced after a brief greeting and check in with the students. The instructor
will introduce the lesson by stating that the class will be beginning our unit on the Age of
Enlightenment. The instructor will give a brief description of the significance of the Age of
Enlightenment before segueing into the activity of vocabulary games that will be accessed
through my website. I will provide a handout with instructions on how to properly navigate
Quizlet to the set of vocabulary flashcards specific to my class. The class will be asked to follow
the link to Quizlet (https://quizlet.com/_44hdq3) and instructed to access the set of vocabulary
terms labeled The Age of Enlightenment by using the password Enlightenment. Students
should be motivated by the prospect of interesting games, and the new concepts that they are to
learn about.

Activity #2
After the students have been given time to go over the various vocabulary terms, key concepts,
and the key players through the use of Quizlet they will be asked to turn their attention back to
the front and stop what theyre doing. They will then be guided them back to the resources page
on my website and split them into two groups of two in which they will be directed to click on
the link for the United States Constitution, They will be asked to pick out any
influences/parallels they noticed from the Enlightenment within this historical document.
Students should be motivated by the connections to be drawn between the ideologies of the
Enlightenment philosophes to the United States Government.

End of Class Discussion


After the students have had time to make connections between the ideas of the Enlightenment
thinkers and the United States Constitution they will be asked to print out their write ups of these
connections and hand them in before the wrap up of the class with a discussion on some of the
connections they noticed, what they found interesting. After this short discussion the instructor
should wrap up class by asking for any finishing questions and reminding the students that
Quizlet is open should they wish to further play the games and that if they choose to make an
account to save their high scores to put their best foot forward when interacting online and to be
cautious overall.
Provide Information:

Instructional Resources, Materials and Technology: Computer with access to the internet,
Printer, Microsoft Word Program

Using the link of the website, a handout with a set of easy to follow instructions to help the
students navigate Quizlet to allow them a faster and easier understanding of the website that they
will be using for this activity, and Access to a website or handouts of the U.S Constitution.

Provide Practice:

After students begin comprehending the topics and concepts through the various vocabulary
games on Quizlet individually they will be asked to pair up into groups of two and go back to the
website and access the United States Constitution and write up a comparison between the
Enlightenment ideals the students learned about from Activity #1 and the connections they notice
in the United States Constitution in order to practice and help retain the information theyve just
learned as well as build new connections that is useful for helping the students fully comprehend
how influential the Enlightenment period was. .

Provide Knowledge of Results:

Verbal Feedback:
Throughout one-on-one dialogue during the activities and through asking questions to monitor
student understanding of the lesson material the instructor will be able to gain feedback on the
effectiveness of this lesson and the comprehension of the lesson by the students. The class
discussion at the end that offers a time for students to ask any other questions they wish to have
answered also provides an opportunity to verbally confirm any misunderstandings or gaps within
the learning that may need to be reviewed in order to provide a clear understanding within the
students of the material.

Written Feedback:
Through the lesson the instructor will take notice of common issues and note them to address
later, and provide a handout that fully addresses any misconceptions or questions. The instructor
will also look over the connection write ups handed in by the students and leave helpful and
insightful feedback on the papers in order to help accentuate where the connections were made
correctly, as well as where there were issues in making the connections between the
Enlightenment thinkers ideals and the United States Constitution.
Review the Activity:

After they type and print out their comparisons between the Enlightenment thinkers and the
United States Constitution they will take part in a class discussion about what they found and
what philosophers had an influence over the Constitution from what they had noticed. This will
serve as an end of class review to keep the memory of what theyve learned fresh. They will also
be offered to continue to use the Flashcards found on Quizlet to help them with independent out
of class review.

Method of Assessment:

The students will be asked at the end of the lesson to provide a copy of their comparisons
between the Enlightenment ideologies and those found within the Constitution of the United
States, as well as asked for any questions that they may have to help gauge the comprehension of
the class of the key terms and topics these activities are meant to address and how well they were
able to make connections between the concepts and those concepts being put into practice.
