Barcelona!

Where/When I actually used this lesson:

This lesson was intended for a Spanish 1 class about the city of Barcelona, Spain.

Originally the lesson was a little different. This is how I wanted to teach the lesson, as it is more

engaging and culturally relevant.

Content Standard(s) (From ACTCL World Readiness Standards for Language Learners)

Standard: Cultures

Learning Objectives: Relating Cultural Practices to Perspectives: Learners use the language to

investigate, explain, and reflect on the relationship between the practices and perspectives of

the cultures studied.

Standard: Communication

Learning Objective: Interpretive Communication: Learners understand, interpret, and analyze

what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.

Assessment (Formative)

Students will be relating what they learned that day to their own cultural funds of

knowledge and making specific connections during a class share-out of the exit ticket, but will

also have to use this information on their future test.

1. PowerPoint with pictures of the topics being presented.

2. Notecards with cultural aspects of Barcelona written on one side, and questions to

guide investigation on the other.
