Subject : After-Activity Report on the Disaster Preparedness Orientation


Course

I. BACKGROUND

The Dangerous Drugs Board has successfully conducted a Disaster Preparedness


Orientation Course in partnership with the Metro Manila Development Authority
(MMDA) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), held last 24 October 2017 at the
DDB Main Conference Room.

The objectives of the activity were to update the knowledge of employees on the
complex issues regarding disaster preparedness and fire safety education. The
seminar aims to help the participants from the DDB establish an effective plan for
preparation and response to mitigate the impact of any form of disaster.

II. PROFILE OF THE PARTICIPANTS

In attendance were DDB employees from different departments.

III. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ACTIVITIES

The opening program started at 9:00 AM. Usec. Maria Belen Angelita V. Matibag,
Executive Director of the Dangerous Drugs Board, gave a short message to
welcome the participants.

Mr. Aldo R. Mayor, the Chief of MMDAs Public Safety Division was the first
speaker. His topic was Disaster Preparedness. He conducted an orientation on
how to prepare for disasters such as earthquakes, landslides, tsunamis and floods.

He discussed disaster management concepts, the impacts of different types of
disasters, and evacuation plans.

The afternoon session was on fire safety. Speakers from the Bureau of Fire, FO3
Jojit D. Santiago and FO3 Richard Andrew Roces, introduced fire safety
emergency procedures and basic first aid responses. They also taught the
participants how to use a fire extinguisher and how to establish a fire evacuation
plan.

The program ended with a short closing message from Ms. Ma. Victoria C. Sorne,
OIC of the AFMD.

IV. LEARNING POINTS

The participants were able to study several modules on the course topics, including
the following:

Module 1 Introduction to Hazards and Disaster Preparedness (orientation


to hazards, disaster management concepts, principles and the Philippine
Disaster Management System)

Module 2 Understanding the Impact of the Different Types of Disaster


(earthquake, landslide, fire, flood)

Module 3 Evacuation Plan

Module 4 Fire Safety

Module 5 Basic First Aid Response

V. RECOMMENDATIONS

The DDB Secretariat will be undergoing more disaster and response trainings,
such as the Basic Emergency Responders Course, Earthquake, Landslide, Search
and Rescue Course, High Angle Rescue Techniques Course, and Flood Incident
Response and Safety Training (FIRST).
