Reflection 2

My writing over the course of this semester seems to only have gone downhill, my

grade on paper one was an 84% compared to paper two which was a 75%, paper three 66% and

paper four still unknown. Following this trend my paper four grade might be an F, especially

since when writing paper four oi found it the most difficult to write. The first paper I wrote for

this semester for this ENC 1101 course was probably the easiest to write because it was about me

and my family, a topic I know very well. In receiving the rubric back with my grade for paper

one I found that my biggest mistake in the paper were simple grammatical errors and misplaced

or missing punctuation marks. The rubric for paper one was very detailed and organized. It broke

down each section of the paper for you, what should be included in each section, and how to

answer what is to be answered. Along with the format of the essay was included in the rubric,

what font should be used, the size, what style writing the paper should be in, and citation

requirements. Paper four in comparison of paper one was more difficult to write. The rubric was

more focused on the format and organization of the paper oppose to the content of the paper. The

number of sources to be expected, what kind of sources should be used, the style of the paper.

Instead of the rubric detailing the content of paper four in class during lecture Professor Pierson

asked the class what we believe should be included in the essay, she then proceeded to type out

our responses. This document we created in class turned out to be paper fours outline, it was

short and not thorough. Even in the editing and revision process the papers differentiate from one

another. Paper one had an outlined peer review you followed the checklist to see what was

missing, what was written well and suggestions for things that could use slight changes. Paper

four was to be read by one of your classmates which had been assigned to peer review your

paper and they were to just make notes on things they noticed that could use changes. The papers

in an overall aspect are also again very different, paper one, the autoethnograpghy was a paper

that wanted you to recognize a community of your choosing to then identify their literacy

sponsors, and what literate activities they partake in. After this you were to examine how the

writing and reading in this community has an impact on your writing and the process itself.

Paper four however was less personal, this paper was a genre analysis and application, I was to

use an assignment of my choosing from another course, and analyze the community it was in, the

audience the assignment was intended for and was actually for, the exigence behind why I was

writing the assignment, the exigence behind the teacher assigning it, and what rhetorical

strategies and lexis might I have used in writing my assignment. Paper 1, the autoethnograpghy,

was focused around me and my family, I could write very informally and was very informed

about all details in this community because it was as personal as anything can get to me. In this

paper, I talk about the values that me and my family share, who/how we learned to read and

write, and how we use it to communicate with each other every day. Paper 4, the genre analysis

and application, was about an introduction into college course. This course was designed to assist

transitioning first year college students into the university life, the paper was a reflection on how

an assigned reading can help me learn how to overcome hard times to help me push through

when I feel like giving up in my years to come while perusing my education in a college setting.
