A STRUCTURAL
A.1 INTRODUCTION
This section includes the basic standards, codes of practice, design criteria, loads and
materials that will be applicable in the design; and gives a brief description of the
proposed structural system to be used.
The structural steel Moment frames should be integrated with concrete core walls and
secondary steel beams transferring lateral loads via rigid diaphragm.
Design should be based on the use of Indian standards and American standards
wherever applicable. The following paragraphs describe in details the different design
aspects and parameters that should be utilized for designing and detailing this project.
NOTE: Column should not be designed as composite sections. Only structural steel
should be used for column and beam design
AISC 360-10, American Institute of Steel Construction, Specification for Structural Steel
Buildings .
Structural Welding Code: American Welding Society, ANSI/AWS D1.1/D1.1M-2008
Steel Structure painting Manual: steel structures Painting Council.SSPC-2000

Buildings.
Superimposed dead load (SDL) to account the flooring, partition, cladding, false ceilings,
waterproofing systems, electromechanical loads, and fixtures.
2
Partition loads of 2kN/m to be considered in SDL
*Note: Fire engine load in ground floor will come in RCC scope so, neglected while modeling.
static.
Load combinations for both service and ultimate limit states (SLS & ULS) are based on relevant (IS/ACI)
codes.
A.5 MATERIALS
The classes of concrete are indicated in the table below and reflect the 28 days concrete cube strength
Cement
Ordinary Portland cement Grade 53: IS 12269 shall be used for super-structure elements.
Moderate Sulphate Resisting cement: IS 12330 shall be used for substructures reinforced concrete
elements in contact with soil.
Sulphate Resisting Cement conforming to IS 12330 for blinding concrete.
Reinforcement
Deformed high tensile steel bars having minimum yield strength fy=500 N/mm and confirming
High strength Bolts: ASTM A 490M, Type 1, or DIN 6914 grade 10.9 or 8.8 heavy hex steel
structural bolts.
2. Shear Connectors: AWS D1.1, type B, minimum yield strength 345 N/mm [50 ksi] at
0.2% offset, made from steel to ASTM A108, with mechanical properties to ASTM
A370.
Metal-Arc Welding Electrodes:
E70XX series of the Specification for Mild Steel Covered Arc-Welding Electrodes, AWS A5.1,
or the Specification for Low-Alloy Steel Covered Arc-Welding Electrodes, AWS A5.5.
Bare Electrodes and Granular Flux used in the submerged-arc process: E70XX AWS flux
classifications of the Specification for Base Mild Steel Electrodes and Fluxes for Submerged Arc
Welding, AWS A5.17, or A5.23.
