1. A single phase line is transmitting 1100 KW power to a factory at 11 KV and 0.8 pf lagging. It
has a total resistance of 2 ohm and a loop reactance of 3 ohm. Determine (i) sending end voltage
(ii) sending end current (iii) sending end pf (iv)sending end active power (v) sending end reactive
power (vi) percentage regulation (vii) line losses (viii) line efficiency. Ans- 11.425 kv, 125 A,

2. A three phase, 50 Hz, 20 km long transmission line delivers 5 MVA at 22 KV and unity pf. The
resistance and reactance of each conductor is 4 ohm and 6 ohm respectively. Determine (i)
sending end voltage (ii) sending end current (iii) sending end pf (iv) sending end active power (v)
sending end reactive power (vi) percentage regulation (vii) line losses (viii) line efficiency (ix)
power factor of the load to make regulation zero. Ans- 22.909 kv, 131.216 A, unity pf, 5.2066

3. A 15 km long three phase OH line delivers 5 MW at 11 kv at 0.8 lagging pf. Line loss is 12 % of
power delivered. Line inductance is 1.1 mH per km. Find (i) sending end voltage (ii) voltage
regulation (iii) power factor of the load to make regulation zero. Ans= 13.612 kv, 23.744%, 0.94
leading.
4. A short three phase transmission line connected to a 33 kv, 50 Hz generating station at the
sending end is required to supply a load of 10 MW at 0.8 lagging pf at 30 KV at the receiving
end. If the minimum transmission is to be limited to 96%, estimate the per phase values of
resistance and inductance of the line. Ans= 2.4 ohm, 28.012 mH

5. The sending end voltage of a three phase overhead line with a series impedance of (20.62<75.96)
ohm is 46.85 kv while the receiving is 33 kv. Determine the power output at 0.8 pf lagging and
the sending end power factor. Ans=22.853 MW, 0.656 lagging.

6. A three phase 80 km long line is supplying 24 MVA at 66 kv and 0.8 pf lagging. The line
resistance is 0.12 ohms.km/phase. Outside radius of conductor is 1.5 cm and the conductor
spacing is 2.5 m with equilateral configuration. Use nominal pi-method to find the regulation and
efficiency. (Ans 14.5% , 94 %)
