Sugar
How sweet it is?

Oh, how we love that sweet taste of sugar. A salivating chocolate covered chunk

of English toffee candy bar, or the 4 inch New York cheese cake smothered with dolce de

leche caramel syrup toped with some whip cream, or bring on the three layered chocolate

cake with a raspberry filling to give the slice an extra swing of pizzazz. Just reading this

previous sentence puts on over 10,000 calories and 200 sugar grahams in my system.

Further more I like Jimmy Falons quote on sugar. He has such a clever way of

making a serious issue seem light hearted and easy to remedy. Jimmy Fallon says, I

love sugar, but like my dad, I still have a difficult time knowing what Sugar Ray is.

Is it possible, for us to live with out sugar in our diet, or eliminate the sugar

content in any food preparation or recipe? I am not sure if we can escape the content of

sugar from foods. It is difficult to find a food item on any menu or on a grocery shelf that

does not contain any amount of sugar. Even a little sugar in any food substance is almost

impossible to avoid. For this reason, we need to find ways or restrain yourself on how

much sugar you consume in your body in a day to avoid a sugar addiction. Here are

some reasons why.

Page 2

Sugar addiction is real. Robert J. Paradowski PhD, claims that an addiction to

sugar is hereditary and, or genetic. He also defines a sugar addiction as compulsive

physiological need for sugar when you consume large amounts of sugar for a long period

of time. Dr. Karine Guillern and Dr.Youna Vandaele provide extensive research that

genetics plays a role in sugar addiction. They have proven that the biological nature of

certain humans, specifically the information programmed into their deoxyribonocleic acid

(DNA) can explain why some people become addicted to sugar, in a way similar to how

others become addicted to substances such as alcohol, nicotine, or heroin.

(Deoxyribonocleic acid), [Sugar Addiction]. Say the word deoxyribonocleic ten times

fast!

If you are fortunately enough, to not have to deal with genetics as a possibility of

becoming addicted to sugar, their is an other argument that has been proven by British

Scientist and nutritionist, Dr. John Yudkin of University of California that large

consumption of sugar in a daily diet can lead to become a sugar addict. He states that

the consumption of sugar has been shown to cause overproduction of the FBJ murine

osleosncoma viral oncogene homoog B (afosb) protein, which plays a critical role in the

establishing the sugar addiction by inducing neuroplasticity in the brains system. This

induces more and more cravings by activating the tongues taste receptors then, signals

are sent to the brain, lighting up reward pathways and causing a surge of feel good

hormones, like dopamine, to be released. Plain and simple Sugar hijacks the brain! It

is difficult for mind and brain to control and to steer away from sugar cravings, therefore

becoming an addict to sugar.

Now that their is clinical proof and scientific evidence that sugar is a dangerous

addiction, lets mention the different effects that large amounts of sugar intake can have

on your body. Sugar, creates tooth decay and gum disease. We all know that too much

sugar can create havoc on our waistline and extra weight. Sugar addiction, the effect is

what Natasa Janicic-Kahric, professor of medicine at Georgetown University calls type 2

diabetess the New millennial disease. Again, sugar is one of the biggest contributors

to that disease [The story of Sugar]. Alzheimers and Dementia has been mentioned by

Dr. Fernando Gomez-pnilla, that sugar addiction contributes to those fatal diseases.

I believe that most of us are aware of the amounts of sugar that are in our diets

and what we are consuming on a daily basis. We look on labels to see how much

grahams of sugar are in a product. We look for substitutes sugar hoping to avoid

inhaling the addicting sugar. Good news, there are substitute sugars that are available.

[Healthy Living], artificial sugar which is called saccharin. This synthetic sugar

contains no calories! Which is good for your teeth, those who love their sodas can pick

up a diet drink to help watch your weight. Soda drinkers can drink diet drinks that have

saccharine to replace the large amount of sugar in a regular soda. Diabetics can purchase

sugar free candy, gum and other eatable food products. The only downside to substitute

sugar is, according to Mayo clinic studies, since 1970 they have linked synthetic sugar

to bladder cancer.

Yet, we are always looking for tasty low cal low grahams of sugar foods that are

advertised in all fast food establishment or restaurants. I am now going to divulge some

surprising fun items of foods that have more sugar than what you would expect or what is

advertised. Smoothies from stores and Fast-food joints can actually rival-or surpass- the

calories in a Big Mac and a regular soda. (Big Mac) has 540 clories/9g of sugar, and a

coke has 200 calories/55g of sugar. Now compare this big mac and coke drink to these

items that many would be consider healthy. Planet fruit Smoothies 22 0z. 710

calories/64g of sugar. These are shocking facts that were tested by Australias

LiveLighter health program [beverages]. Arizona brand raspberry iced tea, 90 calories

23 g/ sugar per 8 oz. Ouch!

Look, Every time we turn around, we are hearing, reading that something we eat

can be detrimental to our health. It is impossible to avoid hearing on the television news,

or radio spot ads that there is going to be something that we eat that can make you sick in

some form. Lots, and lots of fact about sugar and the harmful ways this substance can

Emace your health. Almost anything you buy off a shelf in a grocery store, or purchase

from fast food can cause some type of disease. I believe the answer to all, is to be

careful! Eat natural as much as possible. Do not over indulge in foods and sugars. To

summarize as Wendell Berry (Author) would say, Eat responsible! Nuff said.
