Introduction: Ask the class what they know about Columbus and his importance to the United
States. Write answers on the whiteboard.

Daily Reviews: Review the known facts about Columbus given during the intro and add any that
were missing, including why he is famous, when he found America, what he was
looking for

Daily Objective: Students will be able to give details about Columbus and his life
Students will be able to collect information (notes) and be able to create a
timeline using Timetoast
Students will be able to write a short summary of their findings using
Google Docs
Students will add to their knowledge with an online learning game
Students will show their mastery of the lesson by completing a quiz on
Quizlet

Concept and Skill Students will watch an online video about Columbus (biography.com) <NEPF 1,
Development and Learning Purpose & Connections>
Application: During the video, students will answer pre-chosen fill-in-the blank questions online
from a Google Sheet document <NEPF 2, Learning Tasks & Cognitive Demands>

Guided Practice Using Timetoast, show the class how to create a timeline for Columbuss life. As a
(Teacher led): class, add 2 dates to the timeline. <NEPF 2, Learning Tasks & Cognitive

Group Practice (Whole In small groups, the students will finish creating a timeline on Timetoast <NEPF 2,
class or small groups): Learning Tasks & Cognitive Demands>, noting at least 3 more dates of
importance (5 total)
Independent Practice After creating their timeline, students will individually play a short game on

Homework Students are to complete the online quiz on Quizlet <NEPF 5, Assessment

Closure: The remainder of the lesson the class will write a short summary of their findings
