Cool Photo Edges Actions for Photoshop

It is extremely easy to use this set of actions but anyway I will give you some instructions and explanations
in this file. Actions will be installed in default location and you can load them from Window > Actions >
Actions panel menu. Package with actions is splitted into two sets: Cool Photo Edges All Edges and Cool
Photo Edges Collections, please see description below for explanation.

How to load actions in Photoshop

To load actions in Photoshop and start using them first display Actions panel from Window > Actions. Click
on Actions panel menu then select from list: Cool Photo Edges All Edges or Cool Photo Edges Collections
(Cool Photo Edges Test if you are trying actions using test or trial package).

Before you start using actions

There is no limitation in size, orientation or resolution of photo. Each of actions will work with any of your
photos, however there is one requirement: image must have only one: Background layer. So if you have
layered file go and flatten it first from Layer > Flatten Image.

Ensure that you have only

one (1), Background layer
before running any action.

Actions organization and naming convention

When you expand Photo Edges action set (folder) you will see total of 5 or 12 actions depend on set. Read
Me action with some basic instructions is on top in both sets followed with this actions (description):

Generate All means generate same opened photo with all 42 different edges effect. Final result on your
screen will be last edge effect created and to see other effects you must open and expand History panel. In
History panel scroll to the top and start clicking on snapshot names. Each snapshot have different effect and
each snapshot have saved image with 3 layers:
1. Background with original image.
2. Layer 1 with solid color which you can change and that color is actually color of edge effect.
3. Lastly there is Background copy layer with mask.
 After running any of actions expand
History panel (Window > History)
and start clicking on snaphots to pre-
view image with different edges.

Actions Generate Abstract, Generate Brushed... and so on ,contains 7 different edge effects from that
particular collection.

If you want to run actions and to generate edge effects from 2 different collections, for example Diamond
and Grunge, after running Generate Diamond action run Delete Layers action to delete all layers beside
Background then run next action (Generate Grunge for example).

Action New from Background will create new document form Background layer what is useful to generate
edges with same photo but two different collections so you can compare results (Window > Arrange > Tile
All Horizontally/Vertically).

In my opinion there is no reason to soften edges but anyway if you find edges hard and want to blend them
with background color/gradient/pattern or whatever you have beneath Background copy layer, first click on
layer mask to select it then run Soften Edges Light, Medium or Hard action.
Transparent Edge action will remove two extra layers and apply layer mask so you will get only one layer
with your image and transparent edges.
Extraxt Edge action will delete layers with image and you will get only one layer with edge effect and
transparency what is useful if you want to use edge effect in Lightroom.

Do not run Generate All action in the same document after running any of other actions with separate col-
lections. If you run any of collection actions (Generate Halftone, Generate Waterpaper... from Cool Photo
Edges Collections set) please create new document using New from Background action then run Generate
All from Cool Photo Edges All Edges set.
