SCOPE OF SPECIFICATIONS

1.1. This specification illustrates the methods to be used for anchoring of underground pressure pipes by
means of anchor blocks, anchor rods and clamps or other mechanical restraint methods at every change
in direction of 45 and over, or where required because of unusual pressure or soil conditions.

1.2. With the exception of flanged or welded steel pipes and fittings, socket welded plastic pipes and fittings,
or flanged or butt and strap jointed FRP pipes and fittings, all pressure pipes fabricated of other materials
and with push-on type joints installed below ground level shall be anchored or restrained.

1.3. Ductile iron or cast pipes and fittings shall be restrained by using mechanical joint restrain anchor rods
and pipe clamps, or other approved joint restraint devices, except as noted in paragraph 1.4.

1.3.1. Other pipes using cast iron or ductile iron fittings shall be restrained with anchor rods from fitting to fitting
or with approved joint restraint devices at joints.

Where non-iron fittings are used, or where iron fittings are located far apart (in excess of 75 feet),
concrete anchor blocks or approved joint restraint devices shall be used.

1.4. Concrete anchor blocks may be used where pipes will be installed in solid bedrock.

Concrete anchor blocks shall not be used to support vertical building risers.

2. CODES AND STANDARDS

2.1. Codes and standards, other than those mentioned below, governing the work of this section shall be
followed without deviation in executing this work.

2.2. Pipe anchors and restraints (anchor rods, harnesses, etc.) for pipe conveying water for fire protection
systems (WFP) shall be installed in accordance with current regulations of the insurance underwriter
having jurisdiction (F.M., N.F.P.A., or others).

3. ANCHOR RODS AND PIPE CLAMPS

3.1. Rods, clamps, straps and washers shall be of carbon steel to ASTM A575.

3.2. Cast iron washers shall be Class 'A' grey cast iron to ASTM A126.

3.3. Bolts shall be carbon steel American Standard Machine Class 2 fit to ASTM A307 Grade B and nuts
ASTM A563 Grade A heavy hex.

3.4. Rod couplings or turnbuckles shall be Cupola malleable iron to ASTM A197.

3.5. All rods, clamps, straps and washers, bolts and nuts shall be covered with two coats of heavy duty
asphalt mastic protective coating, Flintkote Flintguard 410-14, or equal. Surface preparation and
application shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendation.
