2 Overview

2.1 Feature Introduction

2.1.1 ZWF21-41-001 Uplink Interference Cancellation

The Uplink Interference Cancellation (ULIC) feature reduces interference and increases
the Signal Interference Noise Ratio (SINR).

The users in the WCDMA uplink are identified by scrambling codes. The antenna power
of the users identified by different scrambling codes may be interference to other users.

ZTE Confidential Proprietary 5

Uplink Interference Cancellation

The interference cancellation technology consists of reconstruction and cancelation. The

users properly decoded are reconstructed, and then the users are cancelled from the
received antenna data. After that, the users that benefit from the cancellation are
demodulated or re-demodulated to increase the success rate of decoding.

2.1.2 ZWF21-41-006 BPs IC Sharing

The ULIC feature can cancel only the interference between the users on the same BP
board. The BPs IC Sharing feature cancels the interference between the users on
different BP boards in the same cell. With the BPs IC Sharing feature, users can benefit
from neighbor boards.

2.1.3 ZWF21-41-007 TIC Enhancement

Based on the ULIC feature, the TIC Enhancement feature provides an additional
demodulation and cancellation. The HSUPA users that fail to be decoded during the
second demodulation can benefit from the cancellation of the users that are successfully
decoded during the third demodulation. This improves the SNR of users and increases
uplink throughput.

2.1.4 ZWF21-41-008 OIC of HSDPA Non-Serving Cell

When an HSDPA UE is in SHO state, the OIC of HSDPA Non-Serving Cell feature
cancels the interference from the HS-DPCCH to the non-serving cell.

2.2 License Control

These features are under license control, and they must be authorized on the OMC or
LMT before being activated.

3 Technical Description

3.1 ZWF21-41-001 Uplink Interference Cancellation

3.1.1 Technical Principle

The following figure shows the structure of the original receiver without interference
cancellation.

Figure 3-1 Structure of the Receiver Without Interference Cancellation

This figure shows that the demodulation for each user is completed on the basis of the
original antenna data.

The following figure shows the structure of the receiver with interference cancellation.

ZTE Confidential Proprietary 8

Uplink Interference Cancellation

Figure 3-2 Structure of the Receiver With Interference Cancellation

The interference cancellation technology consists of reconstruction and cancelation. The

users properly decoded are reconstructed, and then they are cancelled from received
antenna data. After that, the users that benefit from this are demodulated or
re-demodulated to increase the correct decoding percentage.

The number of delay branches and the size of each delay depend on the resource
amount and the timing requirement of the system. Demodulating, reconstructing, and
calculating users in accordance with their speeds (concerning transmission power,
interference, and the success rate of demodulation and decoding) is ideal. However,
users can also be processed in accordance with a specified strategy.

The interference cancellation supported includes DPCCH Interference Cancellation

(PIC), HS-DPCCH Interference Cancellation (OIC), and E-DPCCH or E-DPDCH
Interference Cancellation (TIC).

Based on this technology, the BPs IC Sharing feature is introduced. With this feature, the
UEs on different BP boards in the same cell can benefit from the cancellation of the users
on other boards.

ZTE Confidential Proprietary 9

Uplink Interference Cancellation

3.1.2 Key Technology

The interference cancellation technology reduces interference for target users and
increases the SINR. The reconstruction result determines the interference cancellation
result. If the reconstruction result is incorrect, not only existing interference cannot be
cancelled but also more interference is introduced.

Reconstruction parameters include those concerning the search result of the searcher,
the channel estimation value, and the frequency offset estimation value. More correct
reconstruction parameters result in a more reliable construction result.

To maximize the benefit obtained from interference cancellation, the system divides
interference cancellation into three types: PIC (DPCCH interference cancellation for pilot
channels), OIC (HS-DPCCH interference cancellation for control channels), and TIC
(E-DPCCH or E-DPDCH interference cancellation for service channels). Each type
supports 384 users.

The BPs IC Sharing feature requires that PIC, OIC, and TIC should be enabled. With this
technology, the UEs on different BP boards in the same cell can benefit from the
cancellation of the users on other boards.

3.1.2.1 DPCCH Interference Cancellation (PIC)

DPCCH interference cancellation (PIC) supports DPCCH interference cancellation for all
users, including the interference cancellation for DPCCH pilot fields and non-pilot fields,
which provides the erasing technology to effectively avoid negative gain. After
interference cancellation, antenna data is used for data channel demodulation, which
benefits from DPCCH interference cancellation.

3.1.2.2 HS-DPCCH Interference Cancellation (OIC)

HS-DPCCH interference cancellation (OIC) supports HS-DPCCH interference

cancellation for all users, including the interference cancellation for CQI, ACK, and NACK
fields, which provides the erasing technology to effectively avoid negative gain. After
interference cancellation, antenna data is used for data channel demodulation, which
benefits from HS-DPCCH interference cancellation.

ZTE Confidential Proprietary 10

Uplink Interference Cancellation

3.1.2.3 E-DPCCH and E-DPDCH Interference Cancellation (TIC)

The transmission power in traffic channels is higher than that in control channels.
Therefore, E-DPCCH or E-DPDCH reconstruction can obtain more considerable gain.

To ensure that reconstruction information is correct, the system reconstructs only the
users whose E-DPDCH decoding is correct and binds E-DPCCH reconstruction to
E-DPDCH.

E-DPCCH and E-DPDCH interference cancellation (TIC) contains:

1. E-DPCCH and E-DPDCH interference cancellation for 2 ms and 10 ms HSUPA

users. The users whose E-DPDCH decoding is correct are reconstructed and
canceled. In this way, IC effect can be stably and reliably obtained through the
interference cancellation system.

2. Twice demodulation for HSUPA users. The HSUPA users that fail to be demodulated
or decoded can be demodulated or decoded again. In this way, the E-DPDCH
decoding success ratio is improved.

The demodulation of the previous transmission is supported in the case of 2 ms

E-DPDCH re-transmission. The re-demodulation of the previous transmission can
provide combined gain for the present HARQ in the Turbo decoder.

When the parameter Hspa.setICMode is set to POIC+TIC[7], the PIC/OIC/TIC functions

are enabled.

3.2 ZWF21-41-006 BPs IC Sharing

3.2.1 Technical Principle

The NodeB has more than one BP board. Each cell on the NodeB has a master BP
board and a slave BP board. When there are a large number of UEs in the cell, the UEs
are allocated to different boards for load balancing. The BPs IC Sharing (IBIC) feature
can be used to exchange the cancellation result between the UEs on different boards. In

ZTE Confidential Proprietary 11

Uplink Interference Cancellation

this way, the UEs can benefit from each other, and the boards that do not have
interference cancellation hardware can benefit from the cancellation.

The BPs IC Sharing feature is an inter-board solution for multiple users based on the
Uplink Interference Cancellation feature.

Currently, the combinations of any of BPKE, BPKD, and BPN2 and any of BPC, BPKE,
BPKD, and BPN2 are supported.

In order to enable the BPs IC sharing, the BP boards must be paring put in slot 5 and slot
6,or slot 7 and slot 8. Other groups(like slot5 and slot7) for BP boards, the BPs IC sharing
will be not enable.

3.2.2 Key Technology

The following figure shows the antenna data flow between two BPK_e boards when the
BPs IC Sharing feature is enabled. Through the exchange of the reconstructed data
between the boards, the users on the boards can benefit from each other.

When the parameter Hspa.setICMode is set to POIC+TIC+IBIC[15], the BPs IC Sharing

function is enabled.

3.3 ZWF21-41-007 TIC Enhancement

3.3.1 Technical Principle

Before the TIC Enhancement feature is used, the TIC performs demodulation and
cancellation twice. The users properly decoded are sent for reconstruction and
cancelation. The users that fail to be decoded can be decoded during the second
demodulation in the delayed antenna data buffer. This improves the success rate of
decoding and the SNR through the cancellation of other users.

After the TIC Enhancement feature is used, an additional demodulation and cancellation
is performed. This is similar to the TIC. The users that fail to be decoded during the
second demodulation can still benefit from the cancellation of the users successfully
decoded during the second demodulation. This improves the SNR of users and increase
uplink throughput.

ZTE Confidential Proprietary 13

Uplink Interference Cancellation

3.3.2 Key Technology

The TIC Enhancement technology shortens the demodulation and cannellation delay
and compresses time lag of each iteration. In this way, multiple demodulations become
possible.

The BPK_e and BPK_d boards support the TIC Enhancement feature but the BPK1 and
BPN2 board does not.

To enable the TIC Enhancement function, the parameter Hspa.setICMode is set to

TIC+ETIC[20] or POIC+TIC+ETIC[23].

3.4 ZWF21-41-008 OIC of HSDPA Non-Serving Cell

3.4.1 Technical Principle

In SHO, HS-DPCCH is demodulated only in serving cells. However, the UL interference

of HS-DPCCH still exists in non-serving cells. For interference cancelation in non-serving
cells, the ACK and CQI fields need to be demodulated and decoded. Therefore, the
parameters concerning HS-DPCCH demodulation must be set for non-serving cells.

3.4.2 Key Technology

For non-serving RL OIC, the ACK and CQI fields need to be demodulated and decoded.
Therefore, the parameters concerning HS-DPCCH demodulation must be set for
non-serving cells. Private information is added to NBAP signals during RL setup,
reconfiguration, addition, and deletion. The NodeB needs an effective reconstruction
erasing mechanism to ensure the channel quality of non-serving RLs.

To enable the OIC of HSDPA Non-Serving Cell function, the NodeB must support OIC
function. The Hspa.setICMode must be select one of the below modes:
OIC[2]/POIC[3]/OIC+TIC[6]/POIC+TIC[7]/POIC+IBIC[11]/POIC+TIC+IBIC[15]/POIC+TIC
+ETIC[23]/POIC+TIC+IBIC+ETIC[31].

The OMMR parameter Hspa.setICMode must be set to 1:On and OMMB parameter
Hspa.nonServHsdpaOICSwitch is set to Yes[1].

6 Engineering Guide

6.1 Application Scenario

The IC technology is used to increase uplink throughput when uplink interference

between users is heavy. This technology can cancel the interference between users or
between the code channels of the same user.

IC provides the following benefits:

1. Improves the success rate of demodulation and decoding.

2. Performs OLPC to reduce the transmit power of users.

3. Reduces uplink interference to support more users or uplink traffic.

The gain obtained through IC is related to the actual traffic and the coverage of OLPC. If
the traffic in the cell is heavy and users stay online for a long period, the gain obtained
through IC is considerable. If the traffic in the cell is light or users stay online for a short
period, the gain obtained through IC is limited.

Expected
2. The data rate of the data card and the value of the PS HSUPA
Result
traffic UL Throughput (MAC) (Kbits/s) KPI increase when
POIC+TIC is enabled.

6.3.2 ZWF21-41-006 BPs IC Sharing

If users can be supported by one cell, the users are allocated to one board so the IBIC
feature does not take any effect.

To make sure that this feature can take effect, you can use commands on the CC board
to allocate the users to two BP boards in the lab test. This procedure is complex. For
details, refer to the FD document.

6.5 Impact on the Network

No additional CE devices or demodulation resources are required if the IC feature is

enabled.

KPIs are not lowered if the IC feature is enabled.

In the commercial environment, most user operations are webpage browsing so data
packages are not large and serving times are short. The actual serving time is much
shorter than the online time. Therefore, the gain of IC is smaller than that obtained in
tests. In the cells with heavy traffic, the gain of IC can be observed. However, in the cells
with light traffic, there are a few CS users and online PS users and uplink PS traffic is
light. As a result, the gain of IC cannot be observed.
