AR 14: In Support of the Texas Student Association

WHEREAS, The University of Texas The University of Texas Student Government


serves as the official voice of the student body of The University of Texas at Austin; and,

WHEREAS, By serving in this capacity, Student Government serves as a voice for


students at the state level during the Texas’ legislative session; and,

WHEREAS, The Texas Student Association, “established in 1948 by student


government leaders in the state, [to work] on behalf of Texas students”,1 provides a
collaborative network for student governments of institutions of higher education on a
state-wide scale; and,

WHEREAS, This network has proved beneficial in strengthening The University of Texas
at Austin’s voice at the Capitol on issues pertinent to any and all Texas students; and,

WHEREAS, The Texas Student Association is preparing for their its annual conference
of students in Austin this November 5 – 6, 2010; and,

WHEREAS, This conference will provide an opportunity for students across the state to
highlight issues and policies of importance; and,

WHEREAS, Our Should Student Government agree to hosting this conference, it would
provide an opportunity to build good faith and collaboration between the students of this
University and other higher academic institutions institutions of higher education across
the State; and,

WHEREAS, This conference will discuss the issues of highest priority to the member
schools and solidify a platform for the Texas Student Association in its role of
representing university students.; and therefore,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That, in an effort to strengthen their its collaborative


student network, the University of Texas at Austin Student Government Student
Government of The University of Texas at Austin supports the efforts of the Texas
Student Association by declaring membership in the organization; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the University of Texas Student Government


Student Government of The University of Texas at Austin looks forwardcommits to
hosting and supporting the Texas Student Association November 2010 Conference in
Austin; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the University of Texas Student Government the
Student Government of The University of Texas at Austin assembly pledges to elect and
send official delegates to represent itself at the upcoming Texas Student Association
November 2010 Conference; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the University of Texas Student Government the


Student Government of The University of Texas at Austin encourages and invites all
students at The University of Texas at Austin to participate in the Conference and
engage in discussion with fellow Texas students; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the University of Texas Student Government the


Student Government of The University of Texas at Austin reserves its official support of
policy and lobbying efforts of the Texas Student Association until those initiatives are
determined; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be sent to the Office of the
President, The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, The Office of the Dean of
Students, the Office of Governmental Relations, and The Daily Texan.
