Abstract
Information Kiosk are interrelated and unified
components working together to collect, process,
store, and disseminate information to support decision
making, coordination, control, analysis, and
visualization in an organization. The presentation can
be designed to simply loop through a series of pages
or to allow user interaction and exploration. Its purpose
is to bring in the concept that are made as this project
introduce the so called interactive information kiosk.
The language used for writing the information system
is Hyper Text Mark-up Language, Cascading Style
Sheet for design enhancement and Javascript to add
system functionality. The School of Guiguinto National
Vocational High School (GNVHS) currently uses the
usual way of circulating information to students,
teachers, parents, staff and school officials. The long-
established means of information distribution are
through printed ads. Process of data dissemination is
not yet modernized and organized and needs to be
changed and improved. Thus, the researchers
designed an Interactive Information Kiosk” for
Guiguinto National Vocational High School which
focuses on changing and improving the manual
process of information dissemination and posting of
different announcements needed to circulate to the
students and employees.

1. Introduction
Information dissemination plays a big part in every
institution. Traditionally, most company uses flyers,
brochure and tarpaulin to spread news within the
establishment. Other people intend to disregard these
printed ads because they found it boring and
uninteresting. Moreover, graphic designer dedicated
their time in creating these ads. Since technology plays
a big part in our society, developing an interactive
advertisements is surely a big help in promoting
information dissemination.
Other agencies such as companies and malls had
already create an interactive information dissemination
or kiosk. In the school setting, teachers and students
were always depending in the brochure, flyers and
tarpaulin provided by the school. However, some
students were not able to have these information if they
were absent or not given any flyers. With these, the
researcher like to design a system that can help the
school in spreading information like enrollment
procedures and course information for senior high
school; and showing announcements such as class
suspension, date of examinations and school holidays.
1.1 Statement of the Problem
The manual information system or the usual is time
consuming and thorough. The research study is
conducted to give answer to the following questions:
 Is there a big difference between the existing
and the proposed process?
  Is there a significance in using the proposed
project?
 Does the system performance give satisfaction
to its users?
 Does the project give advantages to its users?
 How the use of GNVHS Interactive Information
Kiosk will reduce the wrong selection of
course?
 Are time and effort saved while using GNVHS
Interactive Information Kiosk?
1.2 Objectives of the Study
This project will design an information kiosk intended
for facilitating different tracks, strand, specializations,
and announcements for Guiguinto National Vocational
High School. Specifically, this project aims to:
 To make the process of information
dissemination faster, secure, innovated and
more convenient way
 To ensure that all posted information and
announcements are checked, approved and
valid
 To inform students without face to face
interactions
 To give informational attraction for the people
inside the school (specially for the visitors)
 To give an innovated and much interesting way
of disseminating information
1.3 Significance of the Study
This eliminate the manual and time consuming
personal or face to face interaction of the existing
process. The kiosk will show all information and
announcements that are checked, approved, and valid
and it will eventually reduce the spreading of incorrect
information.
The project will give benefits specifically to the
following beneficiaries:
The Students. This project aims to help the students
to be informed by the use of information kiosk. It can
give a positive effect to the students especially to those
without cell phone or any social networking account, to
the foreign students that need the basic and updated
information inside the school
The School. This project can be an attraction inside
the school. Interactive information kiosk can be a
reason for the school visitors to give compliments and
good feedback about the school.
Future researchers. This study can be a reference to
the developers and researchers who pursues this kind
of work.
1.3 Scope and Limitations
Guiguinto National Vocational High School Interactive
Information Kiosk is a system which focuses on
changing and improving the manual process of
information dissemination, collection and posting of
different announcements needed to circulate to the
students and visitors. The kiosk includes
announcements and advertisements for the user’s
ease on getting information.
1.4 Definition of Terms
Kiosk - a small stand-alone device providing
information.
Information- is that which informs. It is thus related to
data and knowledge.
Visual Basic.Net- is a multi-paradigm, object-oriented
programming language, implemented on the .Net
Framework.
Interactive- influencing or having an effect on each
other.
Disseminate- spread or disperse (something,
especially information) widely.
2. Review of Related Literature and Studies
Information kiosk are inherently time consuming and
practices more time preparation on disseminating
information. As time pass by modernization transpires
and the social interaction through different media
emerged. The idea of Interactive Information System
was based form different literature and studies. There
are these basic ways on the conventional or the usual
way of information distribution. These are as follows:
1. By flyers, leaflets, school publications,
posters and by using bulletin boards which
actually uses physical preparations;
2. By orientations, meetings and seminars by
which people gather on just for the
information; and
3. By conventional information dissemination
which is by reiterating something to another
and by spreading the news or information
verbally.

In a local study entitled “Integrated Database
Management Information System Development:
Proposed Change Initiative to Improve Performance of
the Division of Talisay City, Cebu” explained that their
information system will automate the manual storage
and consolidation of information by the different units.
It would generate relevant, updated, and timely reports
with less time and personnel involved. [1]
In the year 2014, David T. Bourgeois, Ph.D. explained
that the first way to describe information systems to
students is to tell them that they are made up of five
components: hardware, software, data, people, and
process. [2] In order to fully understand information
systems, students must understand how all of these
components work together to bring value to an
organization. Therefore, information systems are very
essential.
According Mona Matar Alkuwari’s study entitled “On
the National Students Information System” in the year
2014, said that School Information Management
System (SIMS) is a customized system that is
dedicated to the area of school administration. [3]There
is growing workload at schools to organize and
manage the students’ data related to academic
achievement, classroom behavior management
control, tracing overall progress and many other tasks.
Therefore, these system can reduce mistakes,
provides accurate information, moderates the
workloads and executes missions on time, all with low
financial cost.
Daniel Mont (2014) emphasized that, Education
Management Information Systems are used for
monitoring the education system. The EMIS is a
fundamental source of information for advancing
inclusive education. [4] An EMIS consists of a process
of collecting, aggregating and reporting school-based
data. It includes data collection forms and a system for
the distribution and collection of those forms.
However, the problems found are only result of
information system. Essential properties of an effective
information system were enumerated. Some of which
are:
1. Information must be accurate;
2. The system must be contained with up to
date;
3. Information users should not be allowed to
revise or edit the information included; and
4. And user friendliness of the system must be
observed to avoid misperception.
The study entitled “ICCS: Development of a Mobile
Web-Based Student Integrated Information System”
(2013) said that, in today’s trend, quality education with
essential systems being used is a necessity. Various
universities and institutions around the world use
automated advising systems. Student advising is an
essential component of a successful academic
experience. [5] In that they contribute to assisting in
making better-informed decisions and improved
services
The research paper entitled “Cloud-Based College
Management Information System for Universities”
proposed a system that provides detailed and
summarized information on these critical areas to
guide college administrators in planning and decision-
making. [6] This implies that other colleges may adopt
this system for more efficient information management
and more effective management decisions.
In an article provided by Department of School
Education, Haryana (2015) MIS is an initiative to a
build a comprehensive and integrated system for
school for transforming public school education in
Haryana, to ensure high-learning level outcomes
sustainably. [7] In order to ensure ready availability of
authentic data while simplifying data collection
processes, the Department of School Education seeks
to create a consolidated and comprehensive
Management Information System as a single source of
authentic data.
According to John White (2015), the purpose of the
Student Information System (SIS) is to house data
regarding a student’s demographic characteristics,
enrollment history in particular schools, attendance
history, disciplinary history, and projected class
schedules. [8] Records of disciplinary actions and
attendance are also mandatory during this period
because this information is used by Special Education
(SPED) Directors and helps to identify issues early
during the school year. For the End-of-Year (EOY)
data collection, records of enrollments, exits,
attendance, and any disciplinary actions for any
student enrolled at any time during the entire school
year are required and final.

3 Methodology
The proposed approach discusses the chapter that
contains subparts, stages, tools, and processes used
in carrying out the proposed project. This section
discusses the methodology used in designing and
developing the proposed system and discussion of
findings, it also explains the data gathering
procedures, the different techniques and different
sources of data.
The main methods used involved interviews and
document review. The goal of this chapter is to discuss
the overall steps taken to address the research
questions. The starting point is presenting the
population of interest, then the working steps are
presented, starting with the questionnaire, passing by
the methods of identifying and contacting potential
respondents and finishing with summaries the of the

The following are limitations of the project:
1. The system can only run on Windows 7 and
Windows 10.
2. The system is slow on computers that has below
512MB in video card because of the animation and

3. The system only accepts information that are
required by the system.
The Interactive Information System for GNVHS was
tested by the following computer components to check
if the system functions based on the desired output,
namely operating system, monitor size, video card
capacity and memory capacity.
Table 1 presents the test result done during the system
evaluation.
4.2 Project Evaluation Result
The researchers evaluated 100 students of Guiguinto
National Vocational High School, 40 students of Junior
High ICT (Information and Communications
Technology), 40 students of Senior High ICT
(Information and Communications Technology) and 20
students of Junior High School. 100 students who had
experienced in terms of giving information about the
system in GNVHS.
