ZTE RET&TMA Solution

1. RET introduction
RET (Remote electrical tilt unit) is driver of AISG antenna. A RET controls the antenna tilt
remotely, sparing workers from climbing the tower to adjust the tilt. Maintenance personnel
can perform the following operations on an RET based on the AISG protocol through EMS:

 Self Test

 Clear AISG Device Alarm

 Query AISG Device Alarm

 Query Device Information

 ce Data

The principle is by changing the collinear array antenna oscillator phase, change the
magnitude of the vertical component and the horizontal component, varying the intensity of the
component synthesis field. Thus, the antenna is adjusted in the vertical downward direction.

Compared with the traditional antenna system, RET has many advantages:

 Adjust the down tilt angle of the electrical tilt antenna without switching off the power.
Detect the down tilt angle real time.

 High-accuracy tilt avoiding frequency interference and Tx interference.

 The down tilt angle of the antenna can be adjusted remotely without operator. Time and
Node B location have no affect on the tilt operation of the antenna.

 Saving time and cost.

2. TMA introduction
Tower-mounted amplifier (TMA) is a low noise amplifier installed at the top of the receiving
antenna. It can amplify the received signal by 12dB before the signal into the feeder thus to
improve the signal quality of the uplink signal, improve the reliability of communication and
voice quality and enlarge the cell coverage.

3. RRU with RET

The distance between RRU and RET is less than 20m,typical Figure as follow.

Figure 1 (a) is general solution. Figure 1 (b) is applied for the scenario: the distance between
antennae is less than 6m, and the distance between RRU an antenna is more than
