Designing for sustainability – Sustainable architecture and planning has become vital factor in the
design of all buildings because the building activity is considered as one of the major pollutants of
the natural environment. Study of the various techniques of Energy-efficient design and recycling
technologies for water & wastes is mandatory as these have to be incorporated in the design
proposals. Awareness about LEED rating and best practices is expected.
• Institutional buildings – These are buildings with complex spatial organisations, multifunctional
spaces, large spans and variable circulation patterns. Environmental issues are emphasised and the
Design studio aims to inculcate the techniques of designing for sustainability. Students are expected
to do the landscape layout in detail to develop appreciation of a holistic environmental design. Ex.
College / single specialty Hospital / theatre etc.
• Office buildings – Office spaces require special care in design & detailing. Students get exposed
to the various services, structural systems and vertical access systems such as elevators, escalators etc
of multi-storeyed buildings. Knowledge about various types of cores, fire fighting systems and
special building rules applicable to multi-storeyed buildings are implied. Scholars will be required to
do the Interior design scheme in detail. Ex. Multi-storeyed office buildings that do not exceed G+6
floors.
Introduction
Architectural education is a rich experience that appeals to a variety of students from many
backgrounds. The Department of Architecture is a unique community, rich in diversity, collaboration,
and scholarship through design.
The student experience is further enriched by the School’s renowned lecture and public program
series, exhibitions, and publications, as well as the resources available across the campus. Students in
the Department of Architecture are integrated into an active network of internationally recognised
designers, dedicated to addressing the changing needs of the modern world.
As new ways of thinking emerge in the profession of architecture, the field grows increasingly
complex and requires new techniques of inquiry and design.
The basic needs of the human being and the subtle variations of the individual are the source for
Real Architecture as well as, of course, the natural environment and the natural use of materials. Thus
creating – new- changing- to infinity yet timeless Architecture.
Aim:
To create a holistic understanding of the relationship of functions and spaces that shape the
environment and enhance the students to adopt the unique ideas in the design of building
Objectives:
Project Intention
To design and create a Residential school of architecture where in there is ample scope of spatial
planning and creating interesting forms and applying the same for various areas of spaces to be used
by the students. This would also include a detailed analysis of understanding the various aspects of
spaces, their planning and how it would contribute to the development of students intellectual growth.
The proposed school design shall involve organising multiples of single unit space with predominantly
horizontal movement.
Detailed design requirements have to be done for the following requirement of space with respect to
council of architecture norms.
1. Academic Building
ü Architecture
ü Interior design
ü School of arts
2. Admin Building
3. Boys Hostel
4. Girls Hostel
5. Public Interaction space
ü Coffee house
ü Canteen
ü Play areas
6. Service areas
