Mixtures
● Heterogeneous: parts can be separated, can see the different parts
● Homogeneous: uniform in composition, cannot be separated by filtration,
manual separation, magnetic attractions, etc.

Types of Mixtures
● Suspension
● Colloid
● Solution
● Suspension: a mixture where solid particles don’t dissolve,
and eventually settle at the bottom
○ Heterogenous
● Colloid: a mixture where solid particles don’t dissolve, but
stay floating in the liquid
○ Are not see-through
○ Heterogenous
● Solution: a liquid mixture where all the particles dissolve
into each other
○ Can’t see individual parts
○ Homogenous
Components of Solutions
● Solute: the thing that is dissolved
● Solvent: the liquid/gas that dissolves the solute
Factors Affecting Solubility
Temperature Surface Area Agitation (Mixing)

● Magnetism
