Measurement (Definition)
According to ISO/IEC Guide 98-3:2008 (JCGM /WG1/100)
“Guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement”

measurement: set of operation having the object of determining a

value of a quantity
objective: determine the value of the measurand (value of the
particular quantity to be measured)

result of measurement: it is only an approximation or estimate of the value of

the measurand and thus is complete only when accompanied by a statement
of the uncertainty of that estimate

2
Traceability (Definition)
According to JCGM 200:2012
“International Vocabulary of Metrology – Basic and General Concepts and Associated Terms (VIM 3rd edition)”

metrological traceability: property of a measurement result whereby

the result can be related to a reference through a documented
unbroken chain of calibrations, each contributing to the
measurement uncertainty

traceability chain: sequence of measurement standards and

calibrations that is used to relate a measurement result to a reference

Conclusions
●The measurement traceability until the primary standard has been
established by RCM-LIPI Indonesia for acoustics & vibration field
●The degree of equivalence in capabilities between RCM-LIPI and
other National Metrology Institute in Asia Pacific and Europe has been
proven by the participation in the comparison with the satisfactory
result.
●Acoustics & vibration measurement result yield by calibrated
instruments which traceable to RCM-LIPI can be accepted word wide.
●In the future, calibration capabilities will be extended to establish
ultrasound calibration system and also very low frequency vibration for
seismic measurement instruments
