defects. I am an advocate for LEED and managed

MEDICAL PROJECTS
Rady Children’s Hospital Medical Office Building, Murrieta, CA,
OSHPD-3 Medical Facility $32M Design-Build
Ms. Barrie is working with RCHSD as the Owner’s Representative for this project am facilitating design
and project management oversight.
Scripps Health Physical Therapy Center, Encinitas, CA,
OSHPD-3 Medical Facility $775K
Ms. Barrie managed the renovation of an old office facility into a state of the art physical therapy center.
This design-build, OSHPD-3 project was constructed in 4 months,
Radiation Oncology Therapy Center, San Diego, CA,
OSHPD-3 Medical Facility $20M Design-Build
Ms. Barrie played a major role as both design manager then transitioning into the construction manager
for this Design-Build, OSHPD-3 Project. Built on a fast-track 15 1/2 month schedule for design and
construction, she managed all of the design deliverables, the permit process and the user meetings,
while working through the typical pre-construction activities of cost control, buy-out and contracts.

Physicians Medical Office Building, San Diego, CA,


OSHPD-3 Medical Facility $14M
Ms. Barrie managed the construction of this Medical Office Building bordered by one of San Diego’s
busiest Emergency Rooms, one of the main ambulance routes to Sharp Hospital and on the back side by
an existing, operating Medical Office Building. In excess of 5,000 cubic yards of concrete, over 900 tons
of steel and bridge to connect the building to an existing parking structure were some of the successful
logistics management.

OSHPD-3 Medical Facility $775K
Ms. Barrie managed the renovation of an old office facility into a state of the art physical therapy center.
This design-build, OSHPD-3 project was constructed in 4 months.
St. Joseph’s Hospital Mother-Baby Care Unit, Denver, CO,
OSHPD Medical Facility $2M
Located in the core of Denver’s oldest hospital, my team was tasked with not only an on –time delivery
but a challenge to avoid the shut-down of any critical systems in the adjacent hospital wing. With
communication occurring daily and sometimes by construction task.
Kaiser Santa Teresa Medical Office Building, San Jose, CA,
OSHPD-3 Medical Facility $18M
Ms. Barrie’s primary role on this project was negotiating & procuring subcontracts and managing trades
during construction. Ms. Barrie facilitated specific trade sequencing that aligned with the needs to the
existing adjacent hospital. This project was delivered on time and on budget.

HIGHER EDUCATION PROJECTS


Mesa College Center for Business Technology, San Diego, CA
San Diego Community College District $25M
I engaged in this project just after project award as the senior design manager working with the
stakeholders of the project to complete the design validation, values alignment process and complete a
thorough estimate review with our design team. Working closely with Gensler we used VICO for model-
based estimating to facilitate our estimate “visualization” to ensure the design team clearly understood
our target budgets. Through our six month design phase our budget remained in alignment with the
design.

Mesa College Café-Bookstore, San Diego, CA


San Diego Community College District $40M
As the Director of Integrated Projects, I worked with the design-build team to complete a thorough
budget review and analysis of the project after it was re-awarded to our team. With the best value
process we were able to maintain the previous team’s budget and keep the project on track with
minimal disruptions to the original schedule that the San Diego Community College District was working
towards.

SDSU Zura Hall Renovation, San Diego, CA


San Diego State University $30M
My role in this project was to provide support and process oversight to the design manager. I facilitated
the addition of full time estimating support and helped manage the team through the implementation
of a phased design schedule and the creation of a best value selection for the subcontractors awarded
to the project. Using a “Choose by Advantages” method of prioritizing design additions, we were able to
help SDSU prioritize design improvement options that our team felt we could work into the budget.

Saint Augustine High School, San Diego, CA


Private Catholic High School $20M
I efficiently managed the construction of two new wood framed classroom buildings, a subterranean
parking structure and demolished 2 existing classroom buildings at San Diego's oldest Catholic School, in
one of San Diego's oldest residential neighborhoods all while school was in session. I forecasted cost for
more than 8,000 safe, self-perform concrete hours and through efficient business planning and
performance allowed the team to return in excess of $300K to the client. I earned a signed zero defect
letter at the project Substantial Completion and completed all phases of construction on time for classes
the following academic year.

Art Institute of California, San Diego, CA


Education Management Corporation, Culinary School $6M
During a 4-month timeline, I effectively managed the construction of this 75,000 sf., 2-story School that
included five large kitchens for the Culinary Arts, computer labs, corporate office space, a library,
bookstore, and gallery and classroom space. I earned a zero defects letter from the client and delivered
the project on time and on budget.

EDMC, Argosy University, San Diego, CA


Education Management Corporation $1.5M
I managed the remodel of this multi-tenant space for Argosy University to include computer labs,
medical assistant training labs and corporate office space. All construction was in an occupied facility
and on a strict schedule to allow for the next semester enrollment and financial returns for EDMC.

EDMC, Brown Mackie University, Santa Ana, CA


Education Management Corporation, Technical School $1.9M
I worked closely with the client and the Architect on this design-assist project, to remodel an existing
40,000 sf. office building into a new education facility to include corporate office space, classrooms,
computer labs, medical labs, art labs and an industrial design facility with paint booths. Building a long
term relationship with this client and understanding their project goals, I am able to repeatedly return
projects on time and on budget. I have handled the permitting process for this out of town client and I
am able to build significant projects with minimal construction documents and oversight to allow for
cost savings during the pre-construction & construction administration phases of the projects.

EDMC, Art Institute of California Culinary School, San Diego, CA


Education Management Corporation, Culinary School $2.5M
I safely managed the build-out of two large kitchens and a dining room for the California Culinary School.
Working design-assist and closely with the client, I was able to deliver this project working in an
operating school, adjacent to the existing kitchens. With procurement of the major kitchen equipment
critical to our success, I set up weekly meetings with the kitchen designer, installer, Owner, the Health
Department and MEP trades to coordinate all aspects of the design and installation to prevent and
critical errors that might delay our schedule.

LIFE SCIENCE PROJECTS


Rady Pediatric Genomics and Systems Medicine Institute, San Diego, CA,
Genomics Lab $175K
At the request of the client, the Barrie company put together a design-build team to quickly facilitate
the design and construction of a 2,000 sf swing space for DNA sequencing that will serve the Rady
Children’s Hospital-San Diego pediatric group.

Novartis Pharmaceuticals, San Diego, CA,


Biology, Chemistry and Vivarium Facilities $15M
As the temporary facility to house the scientists during their 6 building campus construction, our team
managed the fast track schedule of this project. Ms. Barrie worked closely with the Architect and the
end users to ensure programming guidelines were met and that the procurement of all equipment and
materials were on track with our schedule.

Novartis Institute for Functional Genomics, San Diego, CA,


Western Headquarters Research Facility $72M
Ms. Barrie oversaw the interior build-out of this six-building campus, to include biology & chemistry labs,
cold rooms, warms rooms, humidity controlled rooms, robotics labs, corporate office space, a 250 seat
auditorium, full kitchen and café.

Vivarium Research Facility $3.4M
Ms. Barrie managed the construction of this new 8,000 sf. small animal Vivarium that included
management of all of the Owners lab equipment and cage racks.

DPR Construction LEED Platinum Corporate Office, San Diego, CA
Office $4.5M
During this Design-Build project, I collaborated with design partners and consultants during
several months of design charrettes to retrofit an existing 33,000 sf. one story tilt-up building. I
assisted in developing and enhancing the building program into a usable layout for this new
corporate office. As the conduit from the design to the construction team, I was able to lead
several unique aspects of this project from LEED material selections to the coordination of the
multi-phased, multi-tenant schedule. I studied both active and passive strategies to use in
design, along with airflow, day lighting and solar orientation for heat gain/loss. I met
individually with each Subcontractor to communicate LEED objectives and managed the
installation of the buildings PV System.

JUSTICE PROJECTS
Kern County Justice Facility, Bakersfield, CA,
Justice Facility $100M Design-Build
As the design manager during this project pursuit, Ms. Barrie’s role was to work with the design
consultants and the construction team to develop a seven-month phased design schedule that
would support the construction needs of this new 217,000 sf facility.

East Mesa Re-Entry and Re-Habilitation Facility, San Diego, CA,


Justice Facility $37M Design-Build
Ms. Barrie’s role on this project was the Design Manager for a (6) building addition to an
occupied men’s detention facility, adding (2) dormitory-style inmate housing units with a CSA-
rated capacity of 400 beds, of approximately 56,422 SF, an administration building of
approximately 3,176 SF, an in-take and staff building of approximately 6,173 SF, and a release
and visitation building.

Rockwell International 200mm Wafer Fab Facility, Colorado Springs, CO
Micro Electronics Fabrication Facility $120M
I developed a color-coded schedule tracking and mapping system for this project that broke the
facility down in manageable pieces for the different project teams. With both milestone
awards and penalties in the Contract, it was critical to our team to manage our workflow
efficiently and on schedule. No milestone penalties were incurred on this project.

White Oak Semiconductor Fabrication Plant, Richmond, VA


Micro Electronics Fabrication Facility $375M
Based on my work at Rockwell, I continued the same schedule mapping and I worked closely
with all trades to develop and enhance those schedule tracking techniques for this fast track
facility.
