BBA Internship Guide

This internship guide describes objectives of internship program and its requirements to be
fulfilled by the students. It also explains the role of Program Office in monitoring and
streamlining mandatory internship program.

BBA Internship

Internship is non-credited and non-graded but mandatory requirement of BBA degree program.
It is the terminal point of BBA degree requirement and student must register for the mandatory
internship only after completing at least 5 semesters of the program.

Objectives

Objectives of BBA Internship program include:


 To help students understand dynamism of regular business processes and integration of
different functional areas in an organizational setting
 To encourage students apply their skills acquired through classroom learning
experience, into practice
 To improve students’ work-related proficiencies such as communication skills,
confidence and abilities to work with others
 To connect students with the corporate world (or public or third sectors) in preparation
of their full-time employment hunt
 To raise UCP Business School’s awareness among potential employers and recruiters
through the network of internees

Internship Duration

A Student is required to seek internship for a period of at least six (6) weeks at a stretch in a
professional organization of his/her choice, subject to approval by the Program Office. The
internship is to be completed during the semester of registration. Students must submit their
internship reports to the Program Office by the stipulated date and appear for viva scheduled
by the same office. Students can opt for an internship program beyond six (6) weeks, however
all requirements of the program have to be concluded before end of the semester. Please refer
to the Internship Process Map [Append.1] for reference.

Deploying Organization’s Profile

Students must get formal approval from Program Office regarding acceptability of the
organization of their choice before commencing internship. The screening team may refer to
the following baseline criteria, as found relevant and appropriate:
1. Any business concern listed/registered with relevant bodies (e.g Securities and Exchange
Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Stock Exchange(s), Chamber(s) of Commerce etc)
2. For a manufacturing business, evidence of production activity should be there e.g
traceable location of production unit(s), a known brand etc
3. Scheduled and Co-operative banks
4. NGOs must be registered with the provincial government’s relevant department under
relevant rules of business
5. For start-ups, there should be sufficient evidence of practical work readily done and
revenue generation
In the event of failing to place themselves in any organization, students are advised to contact
UCP Career Services office to seek assistance in internship placement.

Activities Prior To Internship

In order to fulfill mandatory BBA internship requirements, a student must:


 Register for Internship through UCP Portal
 Request and collect internship letter from Program Office. The letter may be presented
to potential organizations while searching for internship opportunity
 Update Program Office after finding an opportunity and seek approval for proceeding
 Start internship only after Program Office qualifies the organization of your choice

Activities During and After Internship


 Perform professional jobs assigned by the organization
 Maintain a hand written log book on daily basis for internship period and append this log
book with the final report submitted upon completion of the internship
 Regularly check UCP portal for any internship related announcements
 Prepare internship report well before the deadline posed by Program Office
 Get the report evaluated by WritCen for written communication skills
 Appear for Viva as per schedule announced by Program Office

Internship Report

Upon completion of internship period, a student must submit internship report, log book and
end-of-internship evaluation form signed and stamped by the deploying organization, to
Program Office.
The contents of the report must include, at least the following:
 Brief Industry Profile (250 words max.)
 Organization’s Profile (250 words max.)
 A brief overview of main business processes that the internee worked around (250 words
min.)
 A brief overview of various departmental functions that the internee had the opportunity to
observe (250 words min.)
 A narrative of personal experience in intern’s own words that must include:
o any new discoveries or observations made during internship
o any problems identified
o personal account of interactions with others at work place
o Specific skills learned
o Most challenging task performed
(1000 words min.)
 Future recommendations for a suitable course of action in the organizational context (500
words min.)
 A short essay identifying the gaps in classroom learning and the experiential learning at the
internship (interns may list some of the steps that can be taken to improve curriculum to
make it more practice oriented) (500 words max.)
 Appendices

Report Format
The Internship Report must be in a page limit of 12 – 20 pages, single side, one and a half spaced
with one-inch margins using a 12-point Calibri font. Title page, table of contents, references,
exhibits and endnotes (if any) do count in page limit. The same font should be used for headings,
sub headings and main text. However, following font sizes should be used.

Each page should contain a header (name of employer company/logo) and footer (University
of Central Punjab). Report must be an original work of the student.

Appendix A of the report must contain


a) Evaluation Form (duly signed and stamped by the internship supervisor at the deploying
organization)
b) A copy of Internship Letter
c) Log book
