Pagelayout editor − overview
The pagelayout editor is a tool which allows you to create new pagelayouts or edit existing
pagelayouts.

After saving a new pagelayout, it is stored in the corresponding directory and can be selected as
default pagelayout for text, graphic or 'Optimized Printing' in the dialog 'Options'.

The pagelayout editor is called choosing the menu item 'Pagelayout Editor' in the submenu 'Extras'.

In the pagelayout editor you can use several features which are necessary for the general handling
of objects.

These features are:

• Marking objects in the pagelayout editor

• Moving objects in the pagelayout editor

• Deleting objects in the pagelayout editor

Marking objects in the pagelayout editor


You have 3 possibilities of marking objects in the pagelayout editor:

• Marking one object by clicking on the desired object.

• Marking several objects by clicking each object while keeping the <SHIFT> key pressed.

• Marking a range of objects using the icon 'Mark several objects'.


This procedure is described below.

Note: If you have overlapping objects in the pagelayout editor and you want to mark only one of
them, mark the first one and press the key <TAB> to switch to the next object.

How to mark a range of objects:

• Click on the icon 'Mark several objects' in the pagelayouter toolbar.

• A symbol for a rectangle is added to the shape of the cursor.

• Press the left mouse button and keep it pressed.

• Draw a rectangle surrounding the area which you want to mark by moving the mouse.

• Release the mouse button. The objects are marked.

Note: Some objects are greater than their visible area. That is why you should always draw the
rectangle a bit larger than the visible area of the objects to be marked.

Moving objects in the pagelayout editor


All objects in a pagelayout can be moved to free positions.

How to move objects in a pagelayout:

• Mark the object(s) to be moved. If you want to move only one object, there is no need to
mark it.

• Press the left mouse button and keep it pressed.

• Move the mouse to the desired position.

• Release the mouse button. The objects are dropped.

Deleting objects in the pagelayout editor


You can delete marked objects in your pagelayout.

How to delete objects in a pagelayout:

• Mark the objects you want to delete.

• Press <DEL>. The marked objects are deleted.

In the pagelayout editor you can use several features for editing and designing your pagelayout.
This means inserting and arranging objects in the pagelayout.

The following procedures are described:

• Starting to work with the pagelayout editor

• Changing the paper orientation

• Defining the source area

• Changing the properties of a source area

• Drawing and modifying a rectangle in a pagelayout

• Drawing and modifying a line in a pagelayout

• Inserting and modifying a text element in a pagelayout

• Inserting and modifying a bitmap in a pagelayout

Starting to work with the pagelayout editor


Having called the pagelayout editor via the menu item 'Pagelayout Editor' in the submenu 'Extras' a
pagelayout is opened automatically.

You can start editing immediately this pagelayout and saving it after editing using the menu item
'Save as...' in the pagelayouter submenu 'File'.

How to open an existing pagelayout:

• Choose the menu item 'Open...' in the submenu 'File'.


The dialog 'Open' appears.

• Choose the pagelayout you want to edit.

How to create a new pagelayout:

• Choose the menu item 'New' in the submenu 'File'.


An empty pagelayout with the name 'Untitled' appears.

Changing the paper orientation


Using the dialog 'Paper orientation' you can change the paper orientation from portrait into
landscape and vice versa.

The dialog 'Paper orientation' appears if you choose the menu item 'Paper orientation' in the
submenu 'Layout'. The dialog is also used to define the printable area of your pagelayout if you
want to work with coordinates.

Using this dialog all objects you have already inserted in the pagelayout will be deleted. There is no
possibility of restoring them.

The fields of the dialog 'Paper Orientation' have the following meanings:

Orientation specifies if it is portrait or landscape.


Paper Format specifies the format of the paper.
Width specifies the width of the printable area of the paper.
Height specifies the height of the printable area of the paper.

If you are going to insert new elements on your pagelayout, the coordinates of the cursor position
are shown in the status bar.

How to proceed:

• Choose the menu item 'Paper orientation...' in the submenu 'Layout'.


The dialog 'Paper orientation' appears.

• Choose the other paper orientation.

Defining the source area


You have to define the area in which the contents of your worksheets or the tree are going to be
printed. This area is called source area and is represented by a red rectangle. Each pagelayout can
contain only one source area.

How to proceed:

• Click on the icon 'Source area' in the toolbar.

A symbol for a rectangle is added to the shape of the cursor.

• Press the left mouse button and keep it pressed at the point where you want to set a
corner of the source area.

• Move the mouse until the displayed rectangle has the desired source area size.

• Release the mouse button.


The source area is displayed as a red rectangle.

If required, the properties of the source area can be changed afterwards.

Changing the properties of a source area


Using the dialog 'Settings source area' you can change the properties of the existing source area
where the contents of your worksheets or the trees are going to be printed.

The dialog 'Settings source area' appears if you choose the menu item 'Object Properties...' in the
context menu of the source area of your pagelayout.

The dialog fields have the following meanings:

Top/Left specifies the position of the top left corner of the source area.
Width specifies the width of the source area.
Height specifies the height of the source area.
Lines indicates the number of zoomed lines, when zooming textual worksheets.
Zoom in factor specifies the zoom in factor for graphic worksheets.
Width of area specifies the width of the area collecting variables for the lateral area for cross
references in graphic worksheets.

The values for the height and width of the source area correspond to the size of the worksheet. So
if your worksheet measures 301 x 301 and you enter the value 301 for the width and height and the
zoom in factor 1, the content of the worksheet is printed in the scale 1:1. If the worksheet is greater
than your source area you can use the zoom in factor to minimize the objects so that they fit in the
source area.

How to proceed:

• Choose the menu item 'Object Properties...' in the context menu of the source area.
The dialog 'Settings source area' appears (see table shown above).

• Change the desired values.

• Confirm the dialog.

Drawing and modifying a rectangle in a pagelayout


You can draw rectangles in your pagelayout.

How to draw a rectangle:

• Click on the icon 'Rectangle' in the toolbar.

A symbol for a rectangle is added to the shape of the cursor.

• Press the left mouse button and keep it pressed at the point where you want to set a
corner of the rectangle.

• Move the mouse.

• Release the mouse button. The rectangle is drawn.

• Change the properties of the rectangle if you want.

How to change rectangle properties:

• Choose the menu item 'Object Properties...' in the context menu of the rectangle.
The dialog 'Settings Rectangle' appears.

• Enter new values for the different parameters.

The fields of the dialog 'Settings Rectangle' have the following meanings:

Top/Left specifies the position of the top left corner of your rectangle.
Width specifies the width of your rectangle.
Height specifies the height of your rectangle.
Color specifies the color of the rectangle line.
Width specifies the width of the rectangle line in points.
Styles specifies if the rectangle line is a normal, a dashed or a dotted line.

Drawing and modifying a line in a pagelayout


You can draw lines in your pagelayout.

How to draw a line:

• Click on the icon 'Line' in the toolbar.

A symbol for a line is added to the shape of the cursor.

• Press the left mouse button and keep it pressed at the point where you want to start your
line.

• Move the mouse to the point where you want to end your line.

• Release the mouse button. The line is drawn.

• Change the properties of the line if you want.

How to change line properties:

• Choose the menu item 'Object Properties...' in the context menu of the line.
The dialog 'Settings Line' appears.

• Enter new values for the different line parameters.

The fields of the dialog 'Settings Line' have the following meanings:

Position indicates the x and y coordinates of the starting and the ending point of the line.

Color specifies the color of the line.


Width specifies the width of the line in points.
Style specifies if you have a normal, dashed or dotted line.

Inserting and modifying a text element in a pagelayout


You can insert text elements in your pagelayout.

How to insert a text element:

• Click on the icon 'Text' in the toolbar.

The letter 'T' is added to the shape of the cursor.

• Click at the position where you want to insert the text element.
The dialog 'Settings Text' appears.

• Enter the text string you want to insert in the field 'Fixed text:'.

• If desired, change the values for the position of the text element.

• Change the alignment of the text element if you want.

• Click the button 'Font...' if you want to change the font of the text element.

How to change text properties:

• Choose the menu item 'Object Properties...' in the context menu of the text element.
The dialog 'Settings Text' appears.

• Enter a new text element or change the existing string.

• Enter new values for the position of the text element.

• Choose another alignment.

• Click the button 'Font...' to change the font.

The fields of the dialog 'Settings Text' have the following meaning:

Fixed text specifies the contents of text element.


Position specifies the position of the text element in x and y direction.
Align specifies the alignment of the text element (left, right or centered).
Font... calls the dialog 'Font selection' for setting the text font.

Inserting and modifying a bitmap in a pagelayout


You can insert a bitmap in your pagelayout, e.g. the logo of your company.

Note: The path of the bitmap is a fixed path. If you copy your bitmaps into another directory you
should first delete the bitmap in your pagelayout and then reinsert it. If you store your bitmap in the
default pagelayouter directory the system corrects the path automatically.

How to insert a bitmap:

• Click on the icon 'Bitmap' in the toolbar.

A symbol for a rectangle is added to the shape of the cursor.

• Press the left mouse button and keep it pressed.

• Draw a rectangle.

• Release the mouse button. The dialog 'Open' appears.

• Double click on the name of the bitmap you want to insert.


The bitmap is displayed in the rectangle.

How to change bitmap properties:

• Choose the menu item 'Object Properties...' in the context menu of the bitmap.
The dialog 'Settings Bitmap' appears.

• Enter a new position or size of the bitmap.

The fields of the dialog 'Settings Bitmap' have the following meanings:

Top/Left specifies the position of the top left corner of the bitmap.
Width specifies the width of the bitmap.
Height specifies the height of the bitmap.

Inserting environment items


You can insert environment items, the so−called system items into your pagelayout. All available
system items are provided in the dialog 'Settings Environment Text'.

System items are e.g. the printing time and date, page numbers or project name. After inserting a
system item, the item is represented by a placeholder in the pagelayout and you can use preview
to display them.

How to insert an environment item:

• Click on the icon 'Environment item' in the toolbar.

The letter 'T' is added to the shape of the cursor.

• Click at the position where you want to insert the environment item.
The dialog 'Settings Environment Text' appears.

• Mark the desired environment item in the list box.

• If desired, change the position of the item.

• If desired, change the alignment of the environment item.

• Click the button 'Font...' if you want to change the font of the environment item.

How to change environment item properties:

• Choose the menu item 'Object Properties...' in the context menu of the item.
The dialog 'Settings Environment Text' appears.

• Enter new values for the position of the item if you want.

• Choose an other item if you want.

• Change the text alignment.

• Click the button 'Font...' to change the font.

System items

The following systems items are available and can be selected in the dialog 'Settings Environment
Text'.

DATE The environment item 'DATE' is a place holder for the printing date. The date
format depends on the country settings.

PAGE The environment item 'PAGE' is a place holder for a page number.

POU The environment item 'POU' is a place holder for the name of the POU.

PROJECT The environment item 'PROJECT' is a place holder for the project name.

SOURCE The environment item 'SOURCE' is the path to the file of the source, e.g. the file of
the worksheet with the code body.

TIME The environment item 'TIME' is a place holder for the printing time. The time format
depends on the country settings.

Dialog 'Settings Environment Text'

The dialog 'Settings Environment Text' appears if you click on the icon 'Environment items' in the
toolbar and then into the editing field. It is used to choose system items such as the date, page
number or to change their properties.

The dialog fields have the following meaning:

Position specifies the position of the environment item in the pagelayout.


Align specifies the alignment of the system item (right, left or centered).
Item specifies the name of the item.
Assigned Text specifies the text that will appear on your pagelayout.
Font... calls the dialog 'Font selection' to change the font.

The steps how to work with the dialog are described in the topic Inserting environment items into a
