5.7 Perimeter Safety Fans

The main contractor is to provide Combisafe debris fan netting system to be used during installation of the
metal decking and steelwork and will be installed under the working areas. Competent staff will commence the
erection of the safety net and supervisor must give a thorough inspection of the safety fans. The nets must
again be inspected on a weekly basis by a trained, competent person. The inspections are to be recorded.
Any debris in the nets is to be removed by closing the net. The protection fan will be installed in accordance
with the manufacturer’s instructions.

6.0 PREPARATORY WORK

6.1 Preparatory Work – MAIN CONTRACTOR

The Main Contractor shall, prior to the commencement of Cleveland Bridge works:

• Ensure adequate access, clear, level working areas and suitable foundation for the crane and all
associated transportation / pedestrians.

• Ensure adequate access, clear, level working areas and hard-standing areas for the erection of steelwork
including any requirement for ground bearing pressure tests at required locations.

• Ensure adequate vehicle access for the delivery and offloading of the steelwork in the erection zone which
may include levelling of the trailer route into the off loading position.

• Advise Cleveland Bridge in writing and with adequate notice, of the allowable ground bearing pressure
and the presence of any restrictions that may affect the movement or position of the cranes during
erection and provide adequate background lighting for the night-possession working.

• Co-ordinate Traffic Management and liase with local authorities where required for all deliveries to site.
This will require Cleveland Bridge to give adequate notice to the main contractor for all deliveries.

• Provide survey control points to allow dimensional checks.

• Ensure that the ground around the sub-assembly area is suitably level and compact to allow the safe
operation of the crane during the sub-assembly works.

6.2 Preparatory Works - CLEVELAND BRIDGE

Prior to site erection the following would be completed by Cleveland Bridge:

• Schedule the deliveries to ensure the erection sequence is maintained.

• Specify cranes to carry out the work and outrigger mat sizes (for mobile cranes) to comply with the
allowable ground bearing pressures as advised by the main contractor

• Check that access provided by the Main Contractor is acceptable.

• Provide adequate task lighting for activities carried out in the hours of darkness.

• Ensure that all the items of temporary works, tools and tackle are in good working order and correctly
installed.
