A Pet for Our Room
We can get a pet for our room. Our
teacher says we can. Ann wants a rabbit.
I want a frog. Who will decide?

2
Our teacher says, ÒLetÕs vote.Ó
Voting is a fair way for people to decide
things. Each person can help choose. I think
voting is a good idea.

3
Time to Vote
Ann gives a talk about rabbits. They hop.
They eat carrots. I talk about frogs. They
hop and swim.

4
Then it is time to vote. Each person
gets one vote. We vote on bits of paper.
The papers go in a box.
I want the frog to win!

5
Who Will Win?
Our teacher adds up the votes. The frog
got a lot of votes. The rabbit got more.
The rabbit wins.

6
It was a fair vote. More people wanted a
rabbit. Maybe we will get a frog next year.
A rabbit is nice, too. Now, who will feed
our new pet?

7
1. What did the class vote on?
2. What were the two choices for voting?
3. Which pet won the vote?
4. Why is voting a fair way for people
to decide something?
5. What is another thing your class could
vote on?

What animal would make a good pet for

your class? Make a poster that shows why
it would be a good pet.
