INTRODUTION:
(a)The research is all about Marabou fraud in Serrekuna of which is one of the major complains
in police stations and public places.

(b)This have come to the notice of the police that many people are complaining of marabou
fraud of which they lost their monies and items within the couple of years to date.

METHOD:
My method of conducting this research was based on questionnaire, case study, and interview
with victims, police officers and lowers.

THE RESEARCH PROBLEM:

The aim of this research is to provide awareness to orders not to fall victim to the on going
problem that is coming to be rampant in society of serrekunda.

CASE STUDY:
According to narrative. At 13:45hrs, Saturday 20th of March 2016, at serrekunda police station.
On there arrived a woman who is firmly holding a scold of a man who she claim to fraud her.
After the narration police decided to escort them to Sanchaba police station because of
demarcation of jurisdiction where a statements where obtained from both parties. Sainey Jatta
a resident of sanchaba stated that one month ago, she left home going to the market,
unknown person whom she later known as Ousman Krubally at the police station. This man
stopped her and asked of a marabou woman who he said to be send to but lives in Bakau and
he is a stranger in town and he cannot located the place. He said to be taking local medicines
for her. The said man was speaking to her in English language but someone pretend to be
passing was stopped and asked if he knew the woman Ousman was asking of and he said to
know her. Sainey wanted to go but the man told her that is not going to be fair if he should let
her go without giving her something for protection against evils .Ousman asked if she can go
with her to her compound but she said no and the man again asked if she have some where to
go with him to help her. She finally asked him to go with her to the brother’s school.

 Upon their arrival at the school, she told the brother the whole scenario and the brother
opened a classroom for them, where she was with both men. Ousmans asked her to look for a
stone of which she did and Ousman hold her hands with stone in it. She believes him to be
praying in it. He told her many places where she is keeping money and asked her to bring all the
money. She told him that those money doses not belong to her, he hold her hands again and
later asked her to go to her house and bring her mobiles and other materials. She remembered
of going and coming back. After their separation, she came to relies that her mobile phones,
pause, and even her goal marriage ring was not on her finger. She went home laughing when
asked she narrated every thing to the family and they are very much annoyed. One faithful day
being Monday the 30th day of April 2016, she was sitting in a mobile shop where she saw the
said Ousman coming with a towel rounded her neck. She waited until he was closer to her, she
quickly scold him by the towel. He spoke to her in Mandinka that she cannot believe because
on that day he said that he cannot speak any other language other than English because he is
from Nigeria. She said to him to give her back all her belongings other wise they should go to
the police of which she finally did with the help of the people.

INVESTIGATION:
This is how a case file was opened and push to detective sergeant Lamin Marr who pick up the
investigation. According to the detective officer, both of them were invited in the detective
room where they were all asked to narrate what happen. Ousman told him to be operating with
a friend who pretends to know the marabou he was asking for. When asked of his wear about,
he said him to be leaving in Kombo Brikama. A taxi was hired and left to recover one of the
mobile but giving false information about the friend. He again said the friend lives in Sanchaba,
open their arrival at the friend’s house he was not in. Untialessly, the detective left very early
with accompanied by one sub-inspector Ebrime Sarr to the man’s house where he was found
sleeping and was woke by the detective officer. He was invited at the police station where he
was identify and a charge sheet was prefer against them. The detective deeply ventured in the
investigation where he was able to trace the mobile but they confirmed that they cannot
remember to whom this goal marriage ring was sold to. The authorities deem it necessary to
arranged them before the television for people to know it be real. The detectives make his
recommendation and push the file to the prosecution office for legal action to be taken in court
room. With this case file without wasting time, they were arranged before the magistrate.

COURT PROCEDINGS
The case was registered in court and the prosecution kamara, during the hearing; they said not
to be guilty of the charges preferred against them. The case was a jointed till the following
week. According to the complainant she has being asked by the prosecutor to wait until such a

time that she is needed by the court because are remanded till further of which she will be
notified if there is any progress. Hence the magistrate is on vacation and the case is at halt.

LITERATURE REVIEW
A bogus Gambian faith healer who canned three women into giving him 150 English pounds by
falsely clamming he had Black magic power to cure personal problems has been jailed for seven
and half years .Abdoulie Gassama said he needed extra money for expensive ritual including
sacrificing crocodiles and cows. The “desperate” victims who fear something treble would
happen if they do not pay up, where “bleary “with two of them giving the fraudster their life
savings. Gassama than plough a large amount of the cash he had extorted into “lavish” property
developments in the Gambia.

Gassama 34yrs, of offenhen covert kings north, had previously pleaded guilty to 19 charges of
fraud and one of money laundering. Ben mills, prosecuting at Birmingham crown court, said
Gassama had advertised his services clamming to be a faith healer over 13 months period,
between May 2014 and June 2015.He will give himself sheikh names the adverts would be
accompanied by photos of some wearing spiritual clothing who was not him. Mr Mills said
Gassama clamming he could help people with emotional problems “when you look at the
words in the advert he was plainly targeting people who were emotionally vulnerable.”He is
34 but said to be 40yrs experience of faith healing. “Over the period of 13 months three ladies
who found themselves in a state and emotional turmoil and desperation each contacted him.
“Each of them were systematically defrauded him. Mr mills said initially paid the defendant a
small amount so he could carry out “Tests”, but he demanded large and large sum claiming he
need carry out prayers and need materials for various rituals or had to sacrifice “exotic”
animals. Mr mills said if any if any of them began questioning his authority he would worn
them that failure to pay could lead to” treble “ things happening to them and their families and
in one case told one woman that she risked her daughter going blind. He said “Each of them
were effectively financially bleary. None of them experience any improvement in their
emotional treble”.

Mr Mills said the large amount of the money had gone through Gassama wife account and had
been spend on living expenses and shopping while some of it had been transferred to the
Gambia where it was used for the construction of property. When his home was later search,
police found deed for land properties in various state of construction. He said the first victim
who has seen Gassama advert contacted him because her husband had left her but she was
desperate to get him back. She visited him at an address in Malvern Road Hands Worth, where
he greeted her dressed in following robes and lead her upstairs to a room with pray mats and

photos of various gods and religious images on the wall. Gassama made increasing item and
cash from her claiming he needed to sacrifice three crocodiles and seven cows and she handed
over a total of five thousand English Pounds. The second victim who sough is help after going
through painful separation who was trying to get her children back, paid of Gassama eight
thousand English Pounds(8000). Mr Mills said the third woman who wanted to cure her
husband of alcoholism, give Gassama One Hundred and Thirty Thousand Pounds (130,000) after
he constantly put pressure on her and ended up selling her house to meet his demands. In a
statement she said she had been put through a “massive amount of emotional stress”. She
went on “I put all trust and faith in that man”. I was worried scared and felt at risk.

“I have been left heat broken depressed and close to having a nervous break down. It has had a
profound effect on my relationship with my family”. In passing sentence judge Nicholas Dean
QC said, you are not a faith healer. You are a charlatan and a fraudster.” you prayed on the
vulnerabilities on your victims extorting large sum of money. You have caused immense and
long lasting distress. Rash ad Muhammad, defendant said “it spirally out of control, it was easy
picking and he carried on taking the money. Cunt Barbara Drin, chair of the city councils
licensing and public protection committed. Said this man has cynically exploited three
vulnerable worn who sough his help in what must have been very traumatic and trying
times.”Not only did he make a string of empty promises he gave the expensive false hope that
their situations would improve, if they paid for extra prayers or sacrifice animals. “Sadly it is
easy to be seduced by the offer of a “quick fix” but people should be very wary of paying any
individual promising to solve their problems in this manner, instead they should seek advice
through professional channels”

CONCLUTION
The purpose of this topic is to create awareness to the general public with or without who is
affected or not. In centuries ago, there were Marabous but with no fraud because you are
consented of the contract and hence is to the best of theirs ability ,thus they are always ready
to pay an amount charge for the said work. Been charms or a juju that was believed to protect
oneself as it is design for. When ever this people appeared before you become very impress
abut them. It makes people very reluctant to escape from them.

The idea here is to bereft the public about this thieves or fraudster who are trying to create
mistrust within the society. They need to be completely wiped from our society by sending
them bye to jail. Therefore the society need to know or be sensitizes by the media.
