Poverty

Eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the
greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable
development.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development resolves to free the human race from
the tyranny of poverty and to heal and secure our planet.

The first Sustainable Development Goal aims to “End poverty in all its forms
everywhere”. Its seven associated targets aims, among others, to eradicate extreme
poverty for all people everywhere, reduce at least by half the proportion of men, women
and children of all ages living in poverty, and implement nationally appropriate social
protection systems and measures for all, including floors, and by 2030 achieve
substantial coverage of the poor and the vulnerable.

As recalled by the foreword of the 2015 Millennium Development Goals Report, at the
Millennium Summit in September 2000, 189 countries unanimously adopted the
Millennium Declaration, pledging to “spare no effort to free our fellow men, women and
children from the abject and dehumanizing conditions of extreme poverty”. This
commitment was translated into an inspiring framework of eight goals and, then, into
wide-ranging practical steps that have enabled people across the world to improve their
lives and their future prospects. The MDGs helped to lift more than one billion people
out of extreme poverty, to make inroads against hunger, to enable more girls to attend
school than ever before and to protect our planet.

Nevertheless, in spite of all the remarkable gains, inequalities have persisted and
progress has been uneven. Therefore, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
and its set of Sustainable Development Goals have been committed, as stated in the
Declaration of the Agenda, “to build upon the achievements of the Millennium
Development Goals and seek to address their unfinished business”.

Instead, the real promise of poverty 3- Undecided

countries themselves, all of which

citizens to work as productively as
those in the developed world. As
more and more developing countries
embrace economic and make their
best efforts to achieve and sustain
rapid and inclusive growth, absolute
poverty will eventually become a
thing of the past.

2. It is possible when each and every

community is able to take care of
their own needs and participate fully
within their own culture; when every
human being is able to meet basic
human needs and participate with
their own culture, then poverty has
been eradicated.

3. Assuming the question is talking

about absolute poverty, you can
eradicate it - it is happening now, and
we can make it continue to
happen. Not always with us.

I'm skeptical that developed countries

can offer much effectiveness in terms
of eradication by doing something
rather than nothing. I'm not
necessarily talking about people on
the ground, helping mitigate the
negative consequences of war and
poverty, charitably. That work is doing
more good than harm, generally.

1. I guess it’s a chicken and egg
question. On one end, we can 2- Disagree
blame the government, and on the
other we can blame ourselves, the 4- Strongly Disagree
people, all of us.

First, the government exists based

on a “social contract” be that a
theory based on Rosseau or John
Locke. The idea is that the people
set-up a government, agreed to
respect it, pay taxes, etc., on the
condition that it will serve the people
and pursue the public interest. But
there came a time when the
government became corrupt,
became “manhid” that it failed to do
its obligations. On the other hand,
the people also permitted it, pay
grease money (paipit,
pakimkim, under-the-table), did not
howl over government irregularities,
still elected the politicians with
questionable character, sold their
votes, etc. In simple sense, the
people tolerated the government.
So there your poverty comes.
2. Mostly, people here in the
Philippines are not worried of said
poverty; many work here to sustain
their needs, especially that of their
families. When you say that there is
justice in other countries we also
have it here in the Philippines.
Poverty should not be a hindrance
to our success, right?.
 3. The Philippines is not poor because
we lack natural resources or
because
nature was cruel to us. In fact, we
are supposedly rich in natural
resources.

We are poor because we lack the

correct attitude. We lack the will to
comply
with and teach these functional
principles of rich & developed
societies.

4. “The point however is to change it”,

nothing to do with communism but
with a social change that in the end
harmonizes with the Filipino soul,
with his dreams of having (or
building) a progressive nation that
supports his aspirations for a better
life for him and his family as he
enjoys his freedom, rights and
responsibilities.

To sum up, to escape from poverty,

we should first understand what a
nation is and help build it. And for
this to occur, we need the right
attitude and the willingness to have
this attitude.

I do not think that ending poverty is
possible. Think that there is just way
5- Strongly Disagree
too much issues involved with trying
to feed everybody on Earth. Some
people are just in such dire situations
that it would be impossible to make
something like world peace possible
for our society.

2. There will always be the poor.

No, I do not think that ending poverty
worldwide is possible, because there
will always be problems with
 distributing food and water. There will
also always be governments who are
corrupt. There are those who will take
the resources for themselves rather
than give them to those who need
them most.

3. No It's Not.
I do not believe ending poverty
worldwide is possible. There will
always be a group in society who are
too greedy to let others survive. Some
humans are purely evil and they have
no problem letting people die on the
streets as long as they don't have to
see it personally. Poverty could be
solved by a mere handful of people in
this country; you don't see them
giving their wealth away though. Not
the majority anyway.
