LO3 - Evaluation

LO2 For this learning objective you worked on planning

and production
What genres/formats have you I have chosen to create an advert for my production
chosen and why? as I believe advert are automatically watched by all
ages. I have decided to create a narrative advert as
I believe I can have creative freedom to make it fit
all age groups.
How much work did you complete When filming my production I had to do all the filming
outside of the lessons? outside of college. I had to travel outside of college
to my location to film and do my location recces.
Some of my research I had to do out of college, a
few of the people I interviewed were people outside
of college. If I had done a bit more research outside
of college it properly would have been easier to set
up my interviews.
What issues did you encounter I found it difficult to find enough actors to be in my
whilst planning and how did you advert, this resulted in having to act in my own
overcome them? production. I could have avoided this by planning
this section better as if I did work on this section
earlier I could have maybe sorted out an extra actor.
I found it difficult to find people to interview for my
focus groups and did not really organise my
interviews well. The interviews for my research ended
up being a bit last however I did manage to find
people to interview.
How did you find the filming and I found the filming to be quite challenging, I had a
editing process? few problems with the tri pod which led to me
holding the camera instead of using tri-pod for some
scenes. Due to this, some of the shots I filmed were
shaky and could have been filmed better. , however
I chose a good range of interesting shots throughout
my advert. I found the editing quite easy as i did not
use over the top editing and kept it quite simple.
While editing I had to edit out a lot of scenes as they
were quite shaky and had to replace them however
this was the only part that was difficult during editing.
Do you believe you met the I do believe the requirements of my target audience
requirements of your target were met. I chose to show two generations
audience? How connecting in the first scene, showing a younger
person and a person over 50 connecting makes it
more enjoyable and relatable for both age groups.
Majority of the older generation appreciate adverts
showing a good bond between families as it is a very
important aspect of their lives. I showed two young
teenagers meeting and connecting in the advert,
having the aspect of young love” is something many
teenagers can relate to and enjoy seeing this. In the
background I played a modern song however it is
calming and links in with the storyline of the advert, I
chose a song which all age groups could enjoy and
not a song that only a specific age group would like.
What was the feedback you Majority of the people who viewed my advert
received from peers – do they enjoyed it and believed that it was suitable for
believe you met the requirements majority of age groups. A lot of people liked the
narrative and concept of the advert they said it had
for your target audience?
an overall positive vibe and made them feel happy.
Some people thought that the location choices
could have been better as well as having more
different shots and close up shots of the Cadburys
chocolate bar.
Feedback:

India:

1. age 17
2. gender: female
3. yes i loved your advert
4. i thought it was a good solid storyline that was
easy to understand and follow. i also thought the
choice of music was perfect and very effective
5. some more close up shots to tell the story e.g.
close ups of the peoples expressions and also of
the chocolate so we can see the branding

adam: My age is 18

im Male

yeah i really liked your advert its a very feel good advert i
think the length is perfect cause it gives you enough time
to appreciate it.

Maybe the second location could of been a bit better.]

You need responses from Chris:
1. Peers (10-18)
2. Adam / Sarah or Chris (30- 1) 32 (age)
40)
3. James (50-60) 2) Male

3) Mostly

4) I liked the story and the use of music.

5) You have filmed some of the scenes in different

aspect ratios, so the screen changes shape from time to
time. I feel like there could have been a bit more time
given to the girl building up the courage to give the boy
some of her chocolate. A couple of close-ups of her
looking at him then close-ups of him crying which would
give her a reason to give him some chocolate. It just feels
a little rushed as it is. It almost feels like they already
know each other.

James:
I thought your advert effectively met the needs of the
chosen target audiences. It would appeal to the older age
group as they would be nostalgic about the relationship
portrayed between the mother and son. It would also
appeal to a teenage audience because of the portrayal of
the relationship between the boy and girl. Thirty-
somethings might also remember the beginning of their
own relationships with warm, nostalgic feeleings. Sharing
chocolate is a common experience that we all enjoy.
The advert itself was effective with a strong narrative that
everyone could relate to.
Some of the filming was less effective. The camera-work
was inconsistent and sometimes shaky. The scene on the
bench could have been filmed from more angles to
convey the idea of the couple meeting for the first time
and the relationship developing between the two of
them.
Were you able to show your I have showed it to the younger generation and the
production to the intended target over 50s age group. They both really enjoyed it, they
audience (peers and teachers both thought the music choice was really suitable
however thought the locations and filming could
aside)
have been better.
What did they have to say about
your production?
How do you feel your product I feel as if my advert has a very good structure and
compares to existing professional basic narrative in which is similar to some existing
products that reach all targeted adverts. The locations and context of the advert I
have created is well thought out. I do think the
audiences?
filming, angles and lighting of the professional adverts
are of a much better standard and this is the aspect
in which I lacked in my advert.
What area are you looking to In my next production I will defiantly improve on the
improve on in your next execution of the production. I want to try and make
production? my next production as professional as I can. I feel as if
I lacked slightly in the filming elements in my advert
and am looking to improve on the physical filming
and lighting in my next production. I will do this by
preparing more and using the correct equipment, for
example: a tri-pod filming lights and a microphone.

Look to use these terms in order to improve the analysis of your own work.

Considered and capable demonstration of processes – detailed documentation of your

production process – such as still images, and annotated screenshots of your specific
production and editing process – including ‘what’ and ‘why’ and not just ‘how’.
