D. BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
Please briefly LAG Zagora was founded in 2015 as a combined effort between 5 rural municipalities in the
present the hinterland of Split – Dalmatia County on the Adriatic coast, just 15 km from the city of Split to
partner implement EU LEADER program procedures for rural development. LAG was created as a non-
organisation. profit organization and its founders are: municipalities, local public institutions such as HUBs, tourist
agencies, representatives of the local business sector and non-profit organizations from this rural
area such as youth clubs, as well as cultural and artistic associations. LAG Zagora covers an area
of 606 km², and has over 15,000 inhabitants. So far, we have worked on promoting sustainable
development and increasing the quality of life in rural communities. LAG’s main interest is to work on
projects with special emphasis on the inclusion of youth in the fields of culture, art and multimedia.
Our LAG area is known for its abundance of handicrafts and agriculture, small and medium scale
entrepreneurship as well as for its well-developed rural tourism and home-made gastronomy
products. The LAG area is extremely rich with cultural and intangible cultural beauties, from the
prehistoric to the modern age, and they should be discovered, such as the Fortress of Klis (where
the „Game of Thrones“ was filmed) or Ojkanje singing (preserved prehistoric). The mountains
 (protected by NATURA 2000) of LAG Zagora offer endless active tourism, including speleology
(especially in one of the most beautiful caves in Croatia called Vranjača), mountaineering, hiking,
tracking etc.

So far, members of LAG Zagora have implemented 2 Youth Exchanges.
