Dear Committee Members,
| am pleased to write this letter in support of Rachel Fielding as she prepares to begin her journey as a student affairs
professional. As the Director of the Learning Assistance Programs on campus, have served as Rachel's internship
supervisor since Spring 2017 when she first began her overall orientation with Learning Assistance Programs.
Rachel joined our team with a sense of curiosity and openness to learning about the intricacies of the overall operations
of Learning Assistance Programs, ranging from the resources we provided to students seeking support, to how we
prepared our student employees to serve as effective peer facilitators of student learning. As she learned more about
‘our program, observed our day-to-day operations and explored our resources, she gained a stronger sense of our overall
goals and how she could use her skills and ideas to be the most supportive, She engaged in the brainstorming of ideas,
processing and refinement of our services, planning and facilitating a workshop and conducting tutoring needs
assessments with our students seeking ongoing tutoring support. | appreciated this willingness to step in and
collaborate with our team in order to provide much needed support to students.
Rachel was open to learn and grow in her ability to effectively and holistically support students and student leaders. She
solicited feedback along the way as she was working on her various projects in her efforts to ensure that she was
providing the best possible services to students, that she was following our existing protocol orifit was appropriate, to
step outside of our existing policies to meet the needs of particular students as circumstances dictated
Rachel and | discussed issues as they related to the services of Learning Assistance Programs and our work with
students, We also delved into other conversations about the profession as a whole, topics that stemmed from class
discussions, and the impact we have as individuals and a team. | appreciated her questions and reflections as she
navigated some of the gray areas of the program and the student affairs field overall, the occasional frustrations and
uncertainties as these were all ways for her to process about her professional philosophy. This also served to push me
to constantly examine my own work with students,
| observed Rachel to be thoughtful, open to learning, willing to step in where needed and concerned about the overall
growth of our students ~characteristics that are crucial for a student affairs professional to possess in order to support
students in their academic journeys. | encourage her to continue her reflection about her particular passion about the
field and wish her all the best.
_ Sincerely,
C2 WU
