A. The Lesson

1. Introduction 3-5 minutes

 getting attention
 relating to past experience and/or knowledge
 creating a need to know
 sharing objective, in general terms
I will begin by showing the students the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuiFEcp8ZFs . This will be to get
students attention as well as get their mind on the northeastern states and their capitols. I will then ask if any
students have been to any of the northeastern states. We will then talk about my objectives and what I am looking
for in the lesson. We will then go over each state one more time and talk about their location.

2. Content Delivery (include time allotment & instructional methodologies) (20-25 minutes)
The students will be broken up into groups of two (one group of three). Each pair will be able to choose a state
they want to work on. They will go to https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/explore/states/delaware/#delaware-
bombay-hook.jpg and read all of the information on the state. They will then need to find different facts about
the state. They will then draw their state and list these facts in the state. The facts that they need to find are:
1. Capital.
2. The State's Nickname.
3. When the state was founded and what state it was (23rd, 1st, etc.).
4. Who lived there first?
5. What States border their state?
6. One Fun Fact.
The students MUST write the capital next to a star to practice their map skills.
 I will have two examples of states prepared for them to look at.

3. Closure (10-15 minutes)

Once the students are done they will cut their states out and as a class we will decide where they go and put them
together to create the region on a map. Once we have figured out where everything goes on our map, the students
will all fill out the worksheet provided and place it in their ‘stay at school’ folder.
 If time allowed the students will be able to present their states.

B. Assessments Used
 Puzzle piecing their states.
 Worksheet

C. Differentiated Instruction
 If students are finishing faster than others they may add color to their posters.
 If students are struggling with completing the number of questions they can have the questions reduced to
just the Capital, State Nickname, and what states border their states.
