THE PLAN OF STALIN TO ABDUCT CHILDREN FROM GREECE

(during the Civil War)

Excerpt from the book:

„GOLI OTOCI JOVA KAPIČIĆA”,

by Tamara Nikčević, VBZ, 2010

General Jovan Kapičić (1919‒2013): - Apart from the wounded ones, from Greece we had
to take and settle into safety the children of the dead and wounded combatants. We took
over 10.000 children.

Tamara Nikčević: - Where did you settle them?

JK: - In the states of Eastern Europe and the USSR.

TN: - Were those children later returned to Greece?

JK: - The majority remained to live in the countries of Eastern Europe. Their identity
has been changed and they have never returned to Greece. Greek partisans asked us to
provide them a radio station. At Avala a studio has been made from where news were
broadcasted, information about the Civil War, about the combats ... It was more of a
propaganda, because of which the United Nations issued a protest to the Yugoslav
government. But it was not a sharp protest; they mostly turned a blind eye to us.

TN: - Why?

JK: - Because they were aware that the Greek uprising has no chance to be successful. Apart
from that, they knew that their protest would be primarily about the USSR and it was not in
their interest to enter a conflict with Stalin.

TN: - Did the Greek government protest because of the Yugoslav participation?

JK: - I think it didn't. I am telling you: everybody knew that it is Stalin's deed. That is why
they kept silence.

TN: - Was the Yugoslav public informed about the interference of Yugoslavia in the internal
affairs of other states?
JK: - It wasn't. What we did was a classic violence!

TN: - Which will soon return upon your head.

JK: - True, it returned upon us.

TN: - After the protest of the UN, was the Greek radio station in Avala shut down?

JK: - No. It worked until June of 1948 and it was the first one to publish the shameful
resolution of the Informbureau. We shut them down immediately!
