CEP 416-Universal Design for Learning Template

For this assignment, you will focus on the technologies that you picked for last week's activity, and you will
make sure that they comply with UDL principles. Remember that simply using technology in the classroom is
not enough; we want to purposefully think about how technology enhances learning and how we can best plan
it into our activity to achieve intended learning goals.

YOUR NAME: DeJuan Jones

ACTIVITY GOAL(S):

This activity will help my students learn more about their families as well as learn about their classmates and realize
that everyone has a unique family. They will learn how to use a search engine, put together a prezi, and scan photos.
Additionally, my students will have increased their cultural awareness after learning about different cultures.

UDL CHECKLIST
(adapted from CAST UDL curriculum self-check)

Flexible media and materials play an essential role in helping students achieve activity/lesson goals. The
principles below help you consider what could/could not work for all your students with the media and materials
included in your activity.

EVALUATION

Based on your responses, how would you modify your media and materials to address the diverse challenges,
talents, and preferences of your students? (answer one)

 If your technology provides support for UDL principles (e.g., 4 out of 6 principles), what are other
student challenges or preferences that you could anticipate in this activity?

 If your technology does not provide support for UDL principles (e.g., less than 4 principles), how would
you modify your media and materials to address the diverse challenges, talents, and preferences of
your students?

I would modify my presentation in a variety of ways. First, I would give my students more options on how to
format their presentation. Additionally, I would provide a checklist so students can monitor their progress and
ensure they are on the right track.

REFLECTION
(participation points for this week).

Briefly describe your thoughts about the UDL-ization process:

1) How is UDL changing how you view technology for teaching and learning?

After watching the video about all the shoes being the same size it makes me laugh because teachers
subconsciously do that to their students. I learned that as teachers we need to cater our teaching styles
to our students learning styles and not the other way around. Also just being more considerate of
students that may need special accommodations and not looking over the details when making lesson
plans.

2) How will you implement UDL in your future classroom?

I will implement UDL in my classroom by catering to the learning styles of my students. I believe many
students have untapped potential that goes to waste because they didn’t have the right people around
them to bring their creativity out of them. I will work hard to stimulate student’s interest, provide content
in various ways, and provide various ways for my students to show what they have leanred.
