INSTALLATION 9 SETTING 2 MAINTENANCE 3 DIMENSIONS 10 ORDERING 40 REFERENCE PUBLICATIONS 2 ‘the frequency relay, with the unit TFF €01, 602 and 603, belongs to the medular system COMBIFLEX, The units are manufactured by ISKRA and has been typetested by ASEA, who guarantees it's quality. By the combination of the different units it is possible to control up to seven frequency levels. The different units are shown on page 3. ‘The units are available for either under- of overfrequency operation, and with single or double bandwidth. With the pushbuttons on the front of each unit the operating values cen be set. The delay of operation is set separately on each unit. To prevent maifunctioning, the operating is blocked for 1 second after applying the energizing voltage or after a short inter~ ruption in the power supply. If the energizing voltage crops below 0.5 x Up #20 % the operation is completely blocked. ‘The measuring circuits in the units contain CMOS-logic circuits which gives high tolerance of disturbances and low power con- sumption. No separate auxiliary voltage is required as this is provided by built-in supply units. RK 652-303 5 Figure 2. Basic unit type TFF 601 with auxiliary voltage supply, Measuring Circuits and setting for one frequency level. Figure 3. Unit type TFF 602 for one frequency level Figure 4 Unit type TFT 602 with two frequency levels. Note that the frequency levels are independent of each other and can be chosen for either maximum or minimurn operation while the bandwidth and the timedelay must be the same for both the frequency levels, errata m510) E22 APPLICATION RK 631-303 E 4 The relay is primarily intended for use in power systems in for example the following applications: © Load shedding at underirequency and load reconnection when the frequency again exceeds a certain level. © Disconnection of local networks at underfrequency. © Protection for rotating machinery: Load shecding and reconnection In the case of trips of large power producing units (generators or entire power plants) the remaining production will be smaller than the actual load, The result will be a drop in frequency. If the frequency drop is too large, the remaining machinery can fo longer operate and will be tripped by their underfrequency relays, Machinery in thermal power stations is vulnerable to frequency drops then the corresponding machinery in hydro power stations. In order to avoid a power system break-down at the frequency drop the method of disconnecting loads can be used. By this action a balance between production and demand is obtained, thereby the frequency can be maintained within the permitted tolerance range. When the tripped production units are reconnected the conditions are available for rapid reestablishment of the system. Disconnection of tecal power systems Important industrial plants often have their own local power supply systems: These work in parallel! with the extemal power system in auch a way that a certain portion of the power is obtained from the external power system and a certain portion from the local power system. At a drop in frequency the power systems must quickly be discomnected, otherwise the local power system will try to feed power to the external power system and collapse because of over-load. The frequency relay is here suitable for detecting the frequency crop and initiating the disconnection of the two power systems. Protection of rotating machinery. The frequency relay can be used to protect auxiliary machinery in power plants at under frequency. In the event of a drop in the frequency of the enetgizing voltage the main switch of the generator is opened, to prevent damage of the local power system. eerrosacan gsea e200 DESIGN RK 651-303 E 5 To protect the turbine wheels in the stee! turbine against too low speed of revolution an underirequency relay can be used to 10 ms ls Breaking capacity ac, PAF 2 O41 do, L/R < 40 ms Operating indicators Weight TFF 601 TRF 602 TFF 603 RK 651-303 E 8 pal25enx 08 +mx 01) VA f= number of measuring steps which have reached the operating limits other measuring steps m 7 : U€05 x Un $20 % Daring 1 Fo.4 5 2k¥, 50 Hz, 1 min. The relay units are mounted on terminal bases type RX4. The complete frequency relay can be mounted in a 19" equipment frame, or in a case type RHGX or in boxes type GKB, The relay units contains CMOS-components that are sensitive to static electricity. Therefore the relay has to be handle very carefully. The operating vaiue for each frequency level Is set by a code-key and eight pushbuttons in the front of each unit, Table 1 is valid for single bandwidth and table 2 for dubble bancwidth. The tables are valid for 50 Hz relays and for under- and overfrequency operation, Example on setting Ht is desired to set a 50 Hz underfrequency relay with single bandwidth for cperation at £9.10 Hz, 1. Look up the frequency value closest to desired one in table 1, ine 28, column 2. 2. To the left on line 28 are found the values for SI=l, S2=1, $320, Stl and $5=1. 3. At the top of column 2 are found the values for S6=1; 57-0 and S8=0, 4, Now set the pushbutten on the front as followst SE S521 s2 1 $3 S720 = out Stelein $8 = 0 = out ‘The relay will now operate for all frequences lower than the set value 49.113 Hz, 5, The time-lag is set separately for each setting level by means of the potentiometer below the pushbuztons. The frequency relay does not require any special maintenance, The relay should be protected against dust, moister and corrcsive atmosphere. The plastic cover should be correctly mounted and the holes in the cover should be covered by the removable plestic plugs.
