c) There is no overall choice, however, an internal choice has been provided in one
question of two marks, on question of three marks and all three questions of five
marks each,

1. An electric dipole of dipole moment 20 × 10-6 C is enclosed by a closed surface. What


is the net flux coming out of the surface.
2. A current carrying loop free to turn , is placed in a uniform magnetic field B. What
will be its orientation relative to B in the equilibrium position?
3. The closed loop PQRS is moving into a magnetic field acting at right angles to the
plane of the paper as shown in fig. State the direction in which the induced current

The angle of dip at a place in Kerala is 180, will its value be more or less at a place
in Kashmir. Give reason.

12. Calculate the current drawn by the primary of transformer, which steps down 200V
to 20V to operate a device of 20 ohm. Assume the efficiency of the transformer to be
80%

13. Distinguish between the terms average value and r.m.s value of an alternating
current.
The instantaneous current from an a.c source is I=5sin314t.What are the average and
r.m.s values of current.
14. Name the constituent of electromagnetic spectrum which
i. has its wavelength range between 390nm and 770nm
ii. is absorbed from sunlight by ozone layer
iii. produces intense heating effect
iv. is used in satellite communication

15. The energy levels of an atom are as show below .Which one of the transitions will

18. A convex lens of refractive index 1.5 has a focal length of 18 cm in air. Calculate the
change in its focal length when it is immersed in water of refractive index 4/3.

19. Prove that no electric field exists inside a hollow charged sphere. State the
theorem used to prove it.

20. Two fixed charges +4q and +q are separated by a distance `a`. Where should the
third point charge be placed for it to be in equilibrium?

21. Show that in the free oscillations of an LC circuit, the sum of energies stored in the
capacitor and the inductor is constant in time.
OR
The arm PQ of the rectangular conductor is moved from x=0 to the right side. The
uniform magnetic field is perpendicular to the plane and extend from x=0 to x=b and is
zero for x>b. Only the arm PQ possesses substantial resistance ‘r’. Consider the situation
the arm PQ is pulled outwards from x=0 to x=2b and is then moved back to x=0 with
constant speed ‘v’. Obtain expressions for the flux and the induced emf. Sketch the
variations of these quantities with time.

22. Using Huygens principle and drawing the sketches of wave fronts, show how a
parallel beam of light is reflected from polished surface and hence verify that <i= <r.

(a) State the condition for total internal reflection of light to take place.
(b) A right angled glass prism with critical angle 41º is placed before an object PQ as
shown in figure. Trace the path of the rays from P and Q passing trough the prism.

24. Mention the significance of Davissoin and Germer experiment. An α-particle and a
proton are accelerated from rest trough the same potential ‘v’.Find the ratio of the de-
Broglie wavelength associated with them.

25. Explain with the help of a nuclear reaction in each of the following cases, how the
neutron proton ratio changes during (i) α-decay ii) β-decay

26. Explain with the help of a circuit diagram, how the thickness depletion layer in a p-n
junction diode when it is forward biased. Sketch the voltage current graph for a p-n
junction diode.

27. Draw the output waveform at Y using the inputs A,B for the logic circuits shown
below.
28. Potentiometer wire PQ of length 1m is connected to a standard cell E1.Another cell
of E2 of emf1.02Vis connected as shown in the circuit diagram with a resistance ‘r’ and
with a switch ‘S’. With the switch S open, null position is obtained at a distance of 51 cm
from P. Calculate
a) Potential gradient of the wire.
b) emf of the cell.
c) When switch S is closed, will null point moves towards P or Q? Give reason for
your answer.

OR
Prove that the current density of a metallic conductor is directly proportional to the drift
speed of electrons.
Two metallic wires of the same material have the same length but cross sectional area is
in the ratio 1:2.They are connected in (i) series (ii) parallel. Compare the drift velocities
of electrons in the two wires in both the cases (i) and (ii)

29. State the Biot –Savart law for the magnetic field due to a current carrying element.
Use this formula to obtain a formula for the magnetic field at the centre of a circular
loop of radius R carrying a current I. Sketch the magnetic field lines for a current loop
clearly indicating the direction of field.
OR
Two strait parallel current carrying conductors are kept at a distance ‘r’ from each other
in air. The direction of current in both the conductors is the same .Find the magnitude
and direction of the force between them.

30. Draw the Labeled diagram of an astronomical telescope in the near point position.
Write the expression for its magnifying power. Explain with reason, how the resolving
power of an astronomical telescope will change when
i) frequency of the incident light on the objective lens is increased .
ii) focal length of the objective lens is increased.
OR
State the condition under which the phenomenon of diffraction of light takes place.
Derive an expression for the width of the central maximum due to diffraction of light at
a single slit.
A slit of width ‘a’ is illuminated by monochromatic source of light of wavelength700nm
at normal incidence. Calculate the value of ‘a’ for position of
i) first minimum at an angle of diffraction of 30°.
ii) first maximum at an angle of diffraction of 30°
