Chris Whaley, J.D., president of Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tennessee, has been
named to the NACCE board of directors.
Springfield, MA, February 21, 2018 --(PR.com)-- The National Association for Community College
Entrepreneurship (NACCE), the nation's leading organization focused on promoting entrepreneurship
through community colleges, has announced the appointment of Chris Whaley, J.D., to its board of
directors. Whaley is president of Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tennessee.
“We are pleased to welcome President Whaley to the NACCE Board of Directors,” said NACCE Chair
Susan May, Ed.D., president of Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, Wisconsin. “His breadth of
experience spans all facets of the community college, from faculty, to dean and administrator - each
providing invaluable perspective and understanding of organizational needs and opportunities. He will be
a vital contributor to our dynamic board.”

incredible staff at NACCE,” said Whaley. “There are so many great entrepreneurial ideas and practices
happening in our community colleges. These initiatives are crucial tools to promote student access and
success throughout the nation and world.”
Whaley began his college education at Roane State, earning the college's highest student award and
continued his education at Middle Tennessee State University. He earned his law degree from the
University of Tennessee. After three years in private practice as an attorney, he returned to the college in
1997 and served in various capacities, including dean of social science, business and education, and vice
president for Student Learning/Chief Academic Officer. He developed original curriculum for Roane
State's A.A.S. degree in paralegal studies and received the Roane County Chamber of Commerce
Distinguished Service Award in 2015. In 2012, Whaley became Roane State's fifth president.
