Student voice on social media.

1a. What are the social media you are partial towards?

I would probably say that I’m very partial to Facebook.

1b. Kindly elaborate what attracts you particularly to that social media, in relation to you as a
student, and as a human being.

On top of being easy to use, it combines convenience for multiple things such as
connectivity, organization and etc. besides, it allow me to see what my friends are up to and
what they have been interested in.

1c. How do the social media of your choice affect you in your daily living (as a student, as a
human being)? Kindly elaborate.

I use Facebook all day. Thus, I used to check out my Facebook frequently. Due to that I’m
aware of all the latest news around the globe. At the same time it allows me to have contact
with students from different country. For example, I have a friend from Sri Lanka, we used
to exchange our knowledge and opinion on variety of topic.

1d. If your favorite social media were suddenly to be withdrawn from your life, for any reason
whatsoever, how would you feel, and why? How might you cope then?

I have no idea. I can’t describe it in words. For sure I will feel lonely and depressed. This is
because I spend most of my time in that virtual world. So most probably without it I can’t
survive. I’m not sure how I’m going to cope without Facebook. If that situation comes, then
I have to start mingle around.

1e. How far do you socialize on social media, and for what reasons?

To a certain extent. So that I won’t feel lonely and occupied with current knowledge.

1f. How do you personally feel about the way social media is currently being utilized by your
English language lecturers to facilitate teaching and learning, for you as a student, and
why?

They are using it in correct proportion. But sometimes I personally felt that traditional way
is better due to technical problems.

1g. What would your PERSONAL recommendations be, for how you would like your English
language lecturers to IDEALLY utilize social media for your particular benefit as a
student? Kindly elaborate on your reasons why.

Lecturers can post videos that explain how to navigate specific homework assignments on
Facebook or any other social media. While, students can create and post videos for one
other to view rather than do in-class oral presentations. I believe students learn best when
they learn from social media. For that reason, lecturers should have incorporated social
media during teaching process.

1h. In your opinion, what makes communication from your English language lecturers to you
over social media impersonal or personal? Are you comfortable with both forms of
communication, and why?

Both. I am comfortable with it because I’m used to it.

1i. Suggest how you may like the communication over social media in 1h) to further improve
(if any). Please state your reasons why.

Keep on updating and have a constant communication so that we have track on what we are
doing.

1j. How would you personally like to utilize social media with your pupils in school, as a
future English language teacher, and why?

Through Facebook group because it’s efficient and time saving on giving suitable answers
for pupils.

1k. How would you personally like to utilize social media with your future colleagues,
superiors or acquaintances, when you join the teaching world as an English language
teacher, and why?

I will collaborate with them and create a group where everyone can share their view point.
It will ease up teaching processes and save time. There is no need for face to face
communication.

1l. Would you extend your engagement in social media with your future offspring too
(assuming that you get married and start a family), and why?

Yes I will. Because it is easy and effective way to communicate without any complexity.
