As a prolific composer of choral music, Johannes Brahms occupied a unique position late
in a historical continuum that extended back through the Viennese Classical composers to
the masters of the Baroque like Bach and Schütz, and further still to such pre-eminent
writers of the Italian and German Renaissance as Palestrina and Praetorius. Brahms spent
endless hours studying the music of the preceding 250 years with great fascination, and
he used his newfound knowledge to enrich his own compositions and extend a rich
musical lineage. Join me for a fascinating exploration of this beautiful repertoire!
