Application of Diodes

 Objective

The objective of this lab is to study the operation of the pn-juction diode and the zener diode

clipper circuit.

 CIRCUITS USED
 PROCEDURE

1. PN-Junction Diode Clipping Circuits

1.1. Build the circuit in figure 2-3 use the signal generator to generate a sine wave of 12

𝑉𝑝−𝑝 with a frequency of 1Khz . Connect the signal generator to the circuit. Display Vs

and 𝑉𝑜𝑢𝑡 on the oscilloscope.

1.2. Once you have the oscillope connected to the circuit connect the signal generator to

the oscilloscope x input and connect the vout to the y input set the oscilloscope .Set the

oscilloscope to x-y display to see thepn junction clipping circuits transfers function.

1.3. Add the dc voltage source 𝑉1 as shown in fig 2-4 and set the input signal sine wave of

12𝑉𝑝−𝑝 at 1khz. Set 𝑉1 = 3V show 𝑉𝑠 and 𝑉𝑜𝑢𝑡 on the oscilloscope. Repeat procedure 1.2 .

1.4. Set 𝑉1=6V.Repeat Procedure 1.

2 Zener Diode Clipping circuits

2.1 Build the circuit of fig 2-5. Set the input to a sine wave of 16 𝑉𝑝−𝑝 at 1khz. Show

𝑉𝑠 and 𝑉𝑜𝑢𝑡 on the oscilloscope. Repeat procedure 1.2

2.2 Build the circuit of fig 2-6 and repeat Procedure 2.1

 Analysis and discussion

Due to the oscilloscope in the only having a limit of 10 volts peak to peak our result from

the input and output wave form are slighty off when compared to the analytical and

theoretical results . the transfer characteristics are off as well because of the 10 V p-p

limit of the oscilloscope when compared to the simulated results .

 Conclusion

It turn out our lab has error in the wave form because of the limit of the peak voltage

but the simulated and theoretical result haved similar out and
