In a nuclear fusion reactor, the reaction occur in two stages :
(a) Two deuterium (1D2) nuclei fuse to form a tritium (1 T3) nucleus with a proton as a byproduct.
The reaction may be represented as D(D,p)T.
(b) A tritium nucleus fuses with another deutrium nucleus to form a helium (2He4) nucleus with a neutron
as a by product. The reaction is represented as T(D, n) .
Given : m(1D2) = 2.014102 u(atom)
m(1T3) = 3.016049 u(atom)
m(2He4) = 4.002603 u(atom)
m(1H1) = 1.007825 u(atom)
m(0n1) = 1.008665 u(atom)

SECTION - III
MATRIX MATCH TYPE
This section contains 4 questions. Each question contains statements given in two columns which have
to be matched. Statements in Column 1 are labelled as (A), (B), (C) & (D) whereas statements in
Column 2 are labeled as p, q, r, s & t. The answers to these questions have to be appropriately bubbled.
More than one choice from Column 2 can be matched with Column 1.
1. Respective graphs for adiabatic process taking first term on Y-axis.
Column I Column II

(A) Pressure-Temperature (p)

(B) Volume-Temperature (q)

(C) Pressure-Volume (r)

(D) Pressure-Internal Energy (s)

time. Using the given information, correctly match the requisite parameter in the left column with the
options given in right column. Consider only their natural decay as the cause of rate of change of no. of
parent nuclei

(A) Disintegration constant has maximum value for the (p) I

material of sample
(B) Half life is maximum for the material of the sample (q) II
(C) Initially if samples of all three materials have same (r) III
number of atoms then number of parent atoms will be
maximum after their respective two half-lives in the sample
(D) Suppose all the materials decay by emitting -particles (s) anyone out of these
of same energy and initially all three samples contain as it is not possible
same amount (in gm) of the materials. to compare.
