iSWAY-FC®

COMPACT PRESSURIZATION UNIT INTENDED FOR SMOKE AND

HEAT CONTROL SYSTEMS

Application:
The iSWAY-FC® series compact pressurization units are com-
prehensive technical solutions designated to overpressure pro-
tection of both vertical and horizontal escape routes in the va-
rious buildings in case of fire.

Functionality and reliability in aerodynamic, electrical and electronic aspects in accordance with:
Technical Approval ITB AT-15-9020/2015, confirmed by Certificate of Conformity ITB-2189/W and the national Declaration of
Conformity issued by SMAY Sp. z o. o. No. 282/2013

Note:
The manufacturer reserves the right to change, amend or update this data sheet at any time without notice.

Intended use and types of the units

The iSWAY-FC® series compact pressurization units (pressure differential kits in accordance with EN 12101-6) are comprehensive
technical solutions designated to overpressure protection of both vertical and horizontal escape routes in the various buildings in
case of fire. All iSWAY-FC® series units are equipped with predictive algorithm regulators which provide automatic adjustment of the
operating parameters to the dynamic changes of the ambient e.g. wind speed and direction, air temperature and internal parameters
e.g. different evacuation scenarios. Capacity of the air supply axial flow fan is continuously adjusted by means of the Danfoss frequency
inverter with the FIRE MODE function which shall be applied in smoke and heat control systems.

Correspondent iSWAY-FC® units can be equipped with dedicated automatics enabling to protect of certain spaces depending on the
local requirements in the building.

Due to the applied control system and wide range of accessories iSWAY-FC® series units can be used to protect number of spaces
with different cubature e.g. staircases, lift-shafts etc. Moreover due to the compact design and structure iSWAY-FC® series compact
pressurization units can be assembled almost anywhere inside the building e.g. technical floors, roof level or ground level.

Technically iSWAY-FC® series units are comprehensive technical solutions for overpressure protection against smokiness of escape
routes in buildings in case of fire. Thanks to a compact design and a wide range of versions this units can be installed almost anywhere
in the building, whereas varying performance of offered fans provides the required level of pressure gradient and normative velocity of
air outflow from the protected spaces.

Units from the iSWAY-FC® series are designed to produce the set value of overpressure within the space of staircase, shaft of rescue
elevator or in a system of separate elevator shafts (each with its own air supply point in reference to the fire floor. It is also possible the
use iSWAY-FC® units to control the pressure in the air supply duct.

lobbies pressurization or else increase available usable area in the building.
In case of communication loss with the differential pressure sensor regulator switches automatically into safe emergency control

enable monitoring, visualization of the system and manual key-protected override switches. TS and MSPU are usually installed
in the BMS room,
2. Maximum length of the pressure differential measurement tubes shall not exceed 12 m,
3. Application of single injection system shall be every time validated taking into consideration building architecture and key
design objectives e.g. allowable pressure differences,
4. iSWAY-FC®D type pressurization unit can be interconnected with max. 32 P-MACF remote differential pressure sensors using
single FireBus® loop,
5. Each remote P-MACF sensor has to have Fire Alarm Signal (FAS) provided. Depending on the location of the fire pressurization
unit communicates with the sensor closest to the fire floor and neglect other readings in order to enable possibly fast
operation,
6. For fire-fighting lobbies (vestibules) equipped with electronic adjustable air transfers remote sensors P-MACF are replaced
with MAC-D-MIN regulators controlling volume control dampers located in the lobby and corridor. Proper functioning of such
system requires to receive Fire Alarm Signal (FAS) to trigger the system and enable measurement of pressure difference
between the lobby and reference (e.g. corridor),
7. iSWAY-FC® type units intended for pressurization of the lobbies with electronic adjustable air transfers or more than one lift
shaft pressurized by a single unit (individual pressure difference regulation) are by default fitted with factory automatics type
“D” and marked as iSWAY-FC®-D,
8. iSWAY-FC® type units intended for stairwell pressurization where reversible flow is required are by default fitted with factory
automatics type “R” and marked as iSWAY-FC®-R.

Use of P-MACF sensors and FireBus® loop communication protocol enable to save space and limit investment and operating costs by
reducing total length of the data transmission cables and capacities of the air supply fans – air supply rates are precisely controlled
and automatically adjusted to current needs. Application of electronic adjustable air transfers enables to save space and improve
aesthetics by reducing required size of air transfer openings (compensative air supply for smoke exhaust).

Failsafe mode In case of communication loss with the pressure sensor regulator switches automatically into safe emergency control
mode (failure mode) regulation based on pressure measurement inside the air supply duct. Desired pressure inside the air supply duct
shall be determined experimentally using the results of on-site measurements.

Installation of the units

To provide maximum flexibility for the designers all iSWAY-FC® type units are delivered as a self-supporting structures with fan instal-
led on shock absorbers enabling to be installed in any position (horizontal, vertical) depending on the local requirements on the site.
However to guarantee comfort of the installers and maintenance crews it is recommended to define expected assembly position of the
unit (1 or 2) upon placing an order.
In case when defining final assembly position of the unit is unknown factory automatics will be installed as per default mounting po-
sition (1).

Communication and control

In order to enable communication and control of the iSWAY-FC®
units based pressurization system dedicated FireBus® protocol
was developed and implemented. For any SAFETY WAY® type
pressurization system 2 FireBus® loops can be distinguished:

• Global FireBus® interconnects in the loop MAC-FC(R)

iSWAY-FC®(-D)(-R) regulators with TSS or TS (depending
on system configuration). The tasks:
• the transfer of Fire Alarm Signal (FAS) information be-
tween the devices,
• monitoring the status of different pressurization system
components and transmitting them to the TSS or MSPU,
• transmitting control signals sent from TSS or TS swit-
ches to proper devices.
• Local FireBus® interconnects in the loop MAC-FC(R)
iSWAY-FC®(-D)(-R) regulators with remote P-MACF diffe-
rential pressure sensors, MAC-D-MIN regulators, T-MAC
temperature sensors and MAC-LINK cards. The tasks:
• communication between regulators MAC-FC, tempe-
rature sensors T-MACF, regulators MAC-D-MIN and
MAC-LINK cards, with which it interoperates.

Figure 15. Official summary of the performance parameters of tested Local and Global FireBus® communication protocols have a
iSWAY-FC® unit loop topology which enables to increase its reliability and im-
munity to single damages of the data transmission lines (in
such case required component can be accessed through the
alternative branch of the loop).

Available structures of the unit

The basic version of the iSWAY-FC® unit is a compact structure
intended (Fig. 18.) intended to be installed outside e.g. roof or
ground level or inside e.g. machinery room. For units instal-
led on the roof or technical floors Twin-Air-Intake module is
recommended (Fig. 19.).

Other versions of an iSWAY-FC® units are unit with air intake

(Fig. 20.) and vertical assembly unit with adjustable air intake

should be positioned at the roof level. It is essential that the air
