Globalisation
Increase in Availability of Goods

Globalisation is the process of trading goods, sharing knowledge on various things,

etc. on an international scale. As per the Oxford definition Globalisation means ‘The
process by which businesses or other organisations develop international influence or
start operating on an international scale.’ It refers to a scenario where countries and
nations around the world becomes inter-connected and interdependent for meeting their
needs, both internal and external. So we understand that the trading of goods and also
other types of customs, teaching patterns, clothing, religions, etc. are discovered in the
process of globalisation on an international scale. For example lets take the condition of
India, over here there are so many religions, customs, types of clothing, different
technologies, etc. thats why we say that India is so diverse. Also if we see we Indians
have adopted so many things form other countries which is only due to globalisation.

As in the modern everyone is always looking for easier and faster methods to
achieve things that they want. Due to which most of the people are accepting
globalisation and following it. We can see the results of the acceptance of globalisation,
there is so much of increase in the availability of goods of various kinds in various places
of the world. Due the huge impact of globalisation, many people have been benefited
financially a lot, due to demand the companies selling their products need to appoint
more and more workers, due to which the population is being used and also they are
having a way to have a livelihood. Whenever a company or a country comes to globalise
both the governments make a mutual understanding with each other so that they both
shall have equal benefits. At the end both the sides are comfortable with the agreement,
because of which we can access most of the goods very easily. For example, the
medicines which are invented by whichever country, are very easily available in any
place of the world.
Globalisation 1
Liberalisation in government taxes and subsidies has resulted in easy import and
export through the world. Globalisation has led to many improvements in the present
society. The increase in imported products entering the country has given inspiration to
most of the companies. Companies have developed new manufacturing process to
improve their products and compete with the other Multi National Companies. This has
resulted to the improvement in the quality of all the types of products. The end user is
greatly benefited as he or she will be able to choose between which quality is better and
also which sis the appropriate cost for the user. For Example when Apple was launched
in India , many people found it very costly and hard to adjust. But in the transection of
time we can how see that how many people are using the products of Apple. Due to the
arrival of Apple in India many other companies of India have tried to copy the concepts
of Apps and make touch phones, etc.

Globalisation has brought a change in mostly everything. There are many

improvements due to globalisation. The improvements are very positive. Many a times
we find many people all over the world, who are actually from a different nation but are
living in an entirely different nation just because of the globalisation advancements.
Which is because most of the nations have adopted the different customs of the world.
Also due the globalisation effect the people can have dual citizenships of the nations
which helps them to live in various places and not feel different. All of this strengthening
in the globalisation has led to a stronger nation or a group of countries. These
improvements have helped a lot for the accessibility of goods too.

There is a very huge disadvantage of globalisation. Globalisation is affecting the

environment in a very harsh way. The effect of globalisation has led to a huge growth in
the demand of goods. Due the demand of goods, there is more need for the producers to
manufacture more and more of the goods. Which many a times leads to the increase of
pollution in the surrounding area of the manufacturing unit. In this way all over the wold
there is more demand and production, due to which the result leads to pollution. Also

Globalisation 2
once a product becomes old many people want to upgrade the product and discard the
older version of it. Many organisations are taking initiative to protect the environment
and make it green and healthy to live in. But some countries due to their stubborn laws of
globalisation are not at all supporting the process of reducing the pollution. At the end
this, results to the deterioration of the environment. For example, when Apple launched
its first iPhone, everyone was very exited and using it, but once the second, theird, fourth
models came out the importance of the first iPhone was lost. Due which it results to the
wastage of it, and wastage also causes pollution.

Multinational corporations (MNCs) are companies that operate in more than one
country. They often have factories in countries that are not as economically developed
because labour is cheaper. Offices and headquarters tend to be located in the more
developed world. For example Unilever, McDonalds, Loreal and Apple. Lets consider
the example the of Unilever which has changed its policies as per the local laws and
consumer satisfaction. Unilever is originally U.K. based consumer goods company. Its
products includes food, beverages, cleaning agents and personal care products. The
Unilever company has its own pattern/procedure to enter into a country to establish a new
market and sell their products to the consumers. The company first observes the market
structure of a country, and then sends in the samples to the stores of the related products
for testing. If the result of the products come in good, only then they plan and establish a
manufacturing plant in the country. If there are flaws in the result of the products they
don’t go forward for the establishment of a manufacturing plant. Once the company
starts manufacturing its products in the country, it then manages the costing of materials
and labour, and then gives out the products at the desirable rate to create new consumers.
Also by giving the needed products at a good quality with a better price, the company
gains more customers than the other local companies. By this way the Unilever company
has been successful in opening its manufacturing plants in around 190 countries around
the world today.

Globalisation 3
Thus liberalisation of government policies to attract foreign investments brings
development in the country by increasing business activities. In this way if the World
Trade Organisation (WTO) convinces all the countries to join globalisation, all the people
in the world will be able to have an access to all the products, technologies and enjoy
various other things all over the world. Also then due to globalisation all the countries
will have equal financial growth in economy and will all be called developed. So in this
way the whole world would be benefited and also have a smooth economical growth.
