A child rapist goes without jail time on probation after
raping 13 year-old in church camp.
A man from Oklahoma has been said to have raped a 13 year-old at a church camp. Though what has really turned heads was the fact
that he is not being served for his crime. In fact, he is only being served a sentence of 15 years worth of probation.

The man is identified as Benjamin Lawrence Petty. He is 36 years-old and legally blind. Because of his disability, the judge cited his
other disabilities and took these into consideration when providing his sentence after he plead guilty for the attack and rape of the
13 year-old girl.

Murray County Assistant District Attorney David Pyle said, “The big thing is Mr. Petty is legally blind and the parents (of the victim) live out of state and this little girl lives out of state and
didn't want to make all the travels back and forth.” He also stated that the plea was negotiated with their permission.

Though he did still recieve 15 years’ probation, anti-crime advocates are not happy that he didn’t receive jail time. Candida Manion, the executive director of the nonprofit Oklahoma
Coalition Against Domestic Violence, told the Associated Press, “Failure to hold perpetrators accountable, regardless of their disabilities, sends the wrong message to victims of crimes.”

Petty received a suspended sentence after his negotiated guilty plea on three felonies, including rape, from District Judge Wallace Coppedge. The camp where the attack happened, and
where Petty worked as a cook, is run by the Baptist Convention of Convention of Oklahoma and is the largest youth camp in the nation.

along Interstate 76 when he attacked her. Daniel Ryan Taylor (as pictured), 32, is facing charges of aggravated assaults and making terroristic threats. Taylor
struck his girlfriend while he was driving on the highway while returning to Dayton, Ohio from a trip to Baltimore, information provided by the Pennsylvania State
