2.2 EMERGENCY LOAD

Emergency Lighting load for 1.5 hours is considered as 440W ( 4Amp ) maximum number
of 20 incandascent lamps of 22W each are switched on at any given time by the maintenance
personnel who reach the substation within 1.5 hours of power failure
OBTAINED FROM THIS DOCUMENT WITHOUT THE WRITTEN CONSENT OF ITS OWNER.

3 LOAD SUMMARY :

The respective loads are listed below. Duty cycle is given in Annex-1

Continuous Load - 10 hours = 15.764 A

Momentary Tripping Load - 1 min. = 160.91 A

Momentary Restoration Load - 1 min. = 43.64 A

Emergency Lighting Load - 1.5 Hours = 4 A

4 CALCULATION OF REQUUIRED SIZE :

Maximum uncorrected size = 135.52

Temperature Correction = 1.15 (Refer IEEE-1106, Table A.1)

(at minimum Temp = -5°C)

Design Margin = 1.1

Aging Factor = 1.25

Required Capacity = Uncorrected Size x Design Margin x Aging factor

x Temperature Correction Factor

Required Capacity = 214.288

Battery Capacity = 200

6 - CALCULATIONS :

The ampere hour rating of a battery charger is determined by equation which is as per
Technical specification

( (1.25 X L)+ (BIF X AHR) ) / 0.83

A = RT
The battery Charger Current Size,

= 40.3067 A

The battery Charger Current Size = 50 A

OWNER.

Where,
The respective loads are listed below. Duty cycle is given in Annex-1

Maximum Required DC load in amperes - L = 15.76 A

( Continuous load is considered )

Battery inefficiency factor - BIF = 1.10

Ampere hour removed during discharge - AHR = 200 A

(Maximum discharger is considered)

Recharge time in hours - RT = 16 A

REFERENCE IEEE Std. 1115-2000

Minimum Cell Voltage 1.1 V

Cell Mfg.
OBTAINED FROM THIS DOCUMENT WITHOUT THE WRITTEN CONSENT OF ITS OWNER.

Rated Ampere hour capacity (Ay std. Time Rate at 25 ºC

to Std % end of discharge)
KT = Ampere that will be supplied for T minute at 25 ºC to
given end of discharge voltage

The Kt factor for time t is calculated in the table by interpolation using the formula

(Kt2 - Kt1) x ( t2 - t )
Kt = Kt2 - ( t2 - t 1 )

End voltage discharge voltage of cell = 1.1 V

Rated Ampere hour capacity = 200 AH
