CASCAMITE C-14
(Pre-catalysed Urea Formaldehyde Powder)

CASCAMITE C-14 adhesive is Product Physical Properties: (at time of manufacturing)

a filled, pre-catalysed urea
formaldehyde resin in powder Appearance Tan Powder
form. It only needs to be
Viscosity @ 32°C 3,000-5,000 cPs
reconstituted with water prior
to use. In the cured state, Gel Time @ 32°C 60 ± 15 mins
CASCAMITE C-14 is a cross-
linked, insoluble, infusible Storage Life @ 32°C Approx. 6 months
material.
Note: Viscosity and gel time values are obtained from the
Storage:recommended glue mix
Application:

CASCAMITE C-14 is specially Store CASCAMITE C-14 in a

formulated for laminating,
doweling, veneering and other
similar wood bonding
operations where the resin is
required to cure at room
temperature. The resulting
bond gives a strong and highly
water-resistant glue line which
could comply with the United
States Federal Specification
MMM-1-186 for Type II resin
in Block Shear Test (Fed. Test
Method 1032 of Standard
175).
By virtue of the ease of glue
mix preparation, CASCAMITE
C-14 is ideal where
inexperienced personnel are
responsible for mixing the glue
or where mixing equipment is
limited. Its availability as an
already compounded adhesive
reduces the number of items
required in the adhesive
materials inventory.
Recommended Glue Mix:
cool dry place away from
direct sunlight. Upon breaking
seal, make sure the CASCAMITE C-14
container's lid is tightly closed 100 parts by weight
in at all times. Water
50 parts by weight
Heat and moisture will cause
powder to harden, rendering it OR
useless.
CASCAMITE C-14

Usable life of glue mix:
Usable life of CASCAMITE C-
14 glue mix is approximately
45 minutes. This could be
shortened considerably is
environmental temperature is
high. In hot weather, it is
strongly recommended that
only a sufficient quantity of
glue mix be prepared for the
job.
To prolong the usable life of
the glue, stand the mix in cold
or chilled water.
Note: Mixing by weight is
strongly recommended for
accurate and consistent glue
mixes.
Recommended Moisture
Content of Stock:
Minimum: 6%
Maximum: 14%
Optimum: 8 - 10%
It is generally recommended
that wood should be worked
at about the same moisture it
will have in use and that all
wood parts of any one
construction should have
about the same moisture
content. Wet wood stock will,
upon drying to the normal
conditions of furniture in use,
shrink and wrap causing
wood/joint delamination,
hence, defacement of the
wood stock.
The equilibrium moisture
content of interior finished
woodwork in Malaysia is about
14%. To prevent any
excessive expansion and
contraction in the final
woodwork, moisture content
of components to be glued
should be kept within the

moisture content range given,
taking into consideration that
glue spread introduces water
into the woodwork.
Wood stock Precautions:
Smooth surfaces: Joints
should be smooth and well
fitted, wood stock with defects
such as knots holes and
chatter should be avoided or
filled with a suitable
compound which dries to a
hard yet slightly porous
surface.
Uniform thickness and density:
All stock in one construction
should be of the same species
and density. When the density
varies, each component
expands or shrinks at a
different rate and to a different
degree causing warpage etc.
Oily wood: Oily woods should
be avoided for all urea resin
(CASCAMITE C-14) gluing.
Urea resin do not bond well to
dense oily wood.
Glue Spread:
Depending on the operation,
the glue mix could be spread
efficiently with a mechanical
roller, hand roller, brush or a
simple scraper. Generally, a
thin spread of glue, preferably
on both adherents, is sufficient
to give a good bond quality an
indication of sufficient spread
would be the appearance of
tear drops squeezed out from
the glue line.
Clamping Time and
Pressure:
To bring the adherents into
intimate contact, a clamping
pressure of 100 - 150 psi (7-10
kg/cm2) would be sufficient. If
a pressure gauge is not
available, the appearance of
tear drops squeezed out from
the glue line would indicate
sufficient pressure.
Clamping time required is
approximately 4 hours at
30°C. The resulting joint
should preferably be allowed
to mature for at least 12 hours
before machining.
Note: Excessive pressure is
undesirable as it usually
causes a starved glue line.
Cleaning of Equipment:
Containers, glue mixers etc.
should be washed with
ordinary tap water before the
glue has commenced to set.
For ease of washing, it is
recommended that warm
soapy water be used.
When brushes are used, avoid
soft paint brushes. Use only
stiff vegetable or synthetic
fibre brushes. These are more
efficient, allow better control of
spread and are easier to clean.
For brush durability and
efficiency, with brushes
regularly.
Do not allow glue to harden in
containers, brushes mixers
etc.

Handling and First Aid
Precautions:

Suitable measuring containers,

scoops etc. should be
provided so that CASCAMITE
C-14 is handled quickly and
without spillage. Workers
should be cautioned to empty
the drum carefully so that the
powder is not dusted into the
air.

Workers who handle

CASCAMITE C-14 should
avoid inhaling the powder.
Rubber gloves and other
protective clothing, such as
aprons are also
recommended.
